I have a LAN wired at home.

Got headsets with mics on them.

Now what do I need to do in order to talk (voice) to my son when he is working at his PC? Should work with Vista.

Thanks in advance

Didn't know those worked on an intranet.

Edit: Any solution for internal emails other than a mail server?

They do not "only" work on the intranet, I suspect they need internet access and will consume bandwidth in order to work.

instead of internal e-mails why don't you use the chat function of Skype. If the other person is not there it leaves a message for them.

Or any other IM package... MSN will do the same thing.

I want to verbally talk to him.

Tried google talk but it asks me to connect to the internet.

I was hoping for a solution that does not involve connecting to the internet. (I understand that the LAN data will be handled as peer-to-peer)

I run Vista on my machine.

dammit I know there is something like what you're after because I remember reading about it somewhere ..... but /me can't think of it now :o Hopefully it'll come to me :D

look in your Windows/System32 Folder for a program called WinChat.exe

That might do the trick for you.

Ooops... sorry... that is on XP. Not sure if it is in Vista.

The staff here like to forward emails (presentations/pictures/videos etc) received from outside people to internal people. So now it gets uploaded and then downloaded again wasting bandwidth:o.
