Solar generation in rain/cloudy conditions

Makes sense, the guys saying their HPs struggle have HPs that are over 10 years old.
Yeah newer ones apparently do take a bit longer to warm up, but not struggle. So instead of 30 min it's 40, in reality it depends on the temp of the incoming water.

@Lupus, I am curious to see how your HP will perform in winter. I was reading up on how the really suck in winter at heating. You do have your inverter to assist so I guess you will be fine. But mornings and evenings it seems HPs work poorly in sub 5 degree temps.

Older pumps seem to have issues, but newer ones not so much.

From my experience in PTA winter last year in June. Not good. I had a few units to burn on the grid usage so thought I would fire up the pool heat pump at 5:30am when I finish my nightshift so I can take an afternoon swim in some moderate water temps.

Didn't go well. 5min later heat pump switched off with an error. Poor Air Flow. Turns out it got frozen solid.

This isn't a pool heat pump ;-) it's one for replacing the element in the geyser.

Yeah was just giving my 2c. Pool heat pump I have is also very old non inverter type so probably why it's not so good in cold weather.

Why would I heat the pool in winter? I mean for me personally why would I have a pool :-P
I thought the same until this year. Rather than going to the gym for the treadmill I just started swimming. Now I cant imagine my life without a pool. I am in there every day and on weekends I can be in there for over an hour.

I've had a pool 8 years, I've used it maybe 8 times :-). Once kids reached a certain age it got harder to get them in.
