I'd need to presell about 500 pieces to make it worthwhile.
Will take a look at costing, be aware that nothing probably going to happen until after CNY, as everything is shutdown till then.


Guesstimate lowest wholesale pricing would be in the R120 a bulb or so landed in small volumes (eg <1000 pieces total) for 6W filament LED. I need to speak to some clearance people here to check how much they plan to rape^Hcharge though before I can come up with firm figures. May be cheap enough to do airfreight depending on package volumes, as bulbs weigh fark all.

If we're looking at container size volumes - eg 30k+ pieces, probably in the R90 wholesale price at a off the top of my head thumbsuck guesstimate.

I do actually have funds lying in escrow that I could use for a smallish order (1000 pieces). Problem is that the rand is so weak at the moment that pricing is increasing faster than production prices are dropping..

3W 3rd/4th Gen LED is at the sweet spot at the moment. My cost pricing on that is less than R10 landed, although the quality isn't great. However, at those prices I don't really care too much financially (although from a environmental perspective it does make me quite sad).

These 3W bulbs you speak of... What's the equivalent lighting power when compared to CFL or incandescent?
And when you say "the quality isn't great", can you explain?... do you mean they have short lifespan or high defective rate?
 
I'm going to be speaking to onedayonly and other similar places. Makes sense for me to bring a bunch in and sell via them if I can.
3W filament LED's would be cheaper (roughly half the price of the 6w bulbs). I prefer 6W, as its similar to 60-80W bulbs - eg one needed per room.

I think what I'll do is revamp one of my bulb websites, and add in new products.

I actually have some stock in hand, but I think makes sense to make a larger order and bring in.
Hopefully it works out, and I can bring more in again.

Some feedback on the initial topic, I bought a 600W pure sine wave inverter over the weekend. Hooked it up to 6x38ah batteries I salvaged from my dad. Did all the wiring running into the DB board. But could not find a change over switch this weekend so that put an end to that. Also ordered a 120w solar panel and charge controller - hopefully I can add that this weekend and hook everything up. (If I can find a damn change over)

Had load shedding on Sunday and I had a couple of speakers on the inverter and it happily run for the 2 hours with barely draining the battery bank.

Will post back with my system as soon as I get it working 100%

So no-one in this circus of a town has any stock left on change over switches - anybody know of a online retailer? Otherwise this is going to put a serious damper on my solar & load shedding shenanigans.
