Hi.

Solar is going to become like the "which car should I get" threads :P.

Hoping I can get some decent advice from you learned folk.

Looking at installing a solar kit and going off grid but still tied for some of the non-critical appliances and for backup.

Looked at something like the kits here. Not sure of quality, etc of the inverters and panels.

Currently use about 1100kwh from Eskom in January and expect consumption to be higher in winter.

What type of kit would I need to make this happen?

Kva, Kw, etc are all Greek to me.

Also, I think I have 3 phase power which from what I have seen is more expensive. How do I check what I have?

I am a complete noob when it comes to these things.

Thanks in advance

Oh, and 90% of the lights are led already and will be swapping the others out soon.

Changing stove to a gas stove in two weeks too.

Hi Shelly

Do you currently have a solar geyser installed? That will already reduce your electricity bill, especially in summer. Go for an evacuated tube system.

No, don't have one. Currently have two big 300l geysers. Will check into the cost of that.

Ouch, I paid R26k (each)2 years ago for 2 Solarhart 300L. Let us know what quotes you get please. I have one more to buy.

Eskom doesn't give the rebates anymore though.

Yes, but supposedly the Department of Energy does now instead... so shouldn't be overly affected. It's not like the rebates were ever properly 'netted' off anyway!

Thanks. Any recommendations on solar geyser installers around Jhb? Mailed a few but they don't seem to want to send quotes through.
