Solar panel install on asbestos roof?

So phase 2 of my install will happen at the end of this month

7 x JA Solar 455W panels (The 2nd Hubble AM-2 will happen in June this year when more funds become available)

I would have then used up all my available North facing roof space.

The next available roof space I have available is the East and West side of my house. Only problem is that its the old part of the house and has an Asbestos roof.

Has anyone ever tried to install solar panels on an asbestos roof and is it safe to do so?

The mounting hardware mounts directly onto the rafters so there won't necessarily be any safety issues, the only problem there is would be potential leaks or cracks, but nothing that can't be dealt with.
 
I see that you still have to drill into the Asbestos? I know that its poisonous and what are health risks for the dust in the house would any installer be willing to deal with asbestos?

Get rid of that damn stuff first.

I believe they would, they can always get some hungry guy from the street corner to deal with the drilling.

I don't think it will pose much of a risk, the exposure would be very limited, although the Asbestos is a very undesirable thing to have in the first place.

I am waiting for it to get the point of beyond repair before I replace it. But this stuff has stood the test of time I think its over 25 years old and the only maintenance I had to do was just apply roof paint every 5 years and apply a membrane or 2 over the bolts. Other than that, the roof is 100% fine. Which is a shame
