Ooh, I haz opinion. I've been asked this before by other friends.
...and its
complete and utter garbage.
Reasons in no particular order of precedence -
#1 Shading
The design shows lots of panels getting shade. Thats a no-no. You're going to end up with much lower output at best, and burnt panels or fires at worst. Shading Panels is bad. BAD ***BAD***.
#2 Cost
This is in no way going to be cheaper than a static mount or roof mount.
Its far too little output for cost/size.
It might track, but its going to be *far* cheaper to stick up another panel or two^Hseven on a roof vs buy one of these.
The cost is going to be massively more expensive than a fixed system
In order for a tracker to make economic sense, the increased energy harvest must exceed the added cost of installing and maintaining trackers over the lifetime of the system.
#3 Suspect Math
As this is the smartflower, it uses the same suspect calculations
i.e They make up a undefined statement “degree of self utilization” don’t explain it and it magics away the lower values of their system vs a typical other system.
#4 Maintenance
Your maintenance costs on fixed solar are effectively zero.
Anything with moving parts like this is going to need maintenance. More costs.
Its a stupid product.
