So, I have two rooms with east facing sliding glass doors which gets incredibly hot on sunny days (and it's not just direct sunlight - I get indirect sunlight reflected off the ocean as well). I have therefore been considering getting a window coating/film installed to limit the amount of heat that can enter the room during the day. Does anyone here have any experience with something like this? Is it effective in reducing the room temperature/cooling requirements?

I'm a little confused about your title... "Solar" as in the brand or as in that you want to use the energy to convert to power?

Either way, I tinted a few windows in our place that have direct sunlight hitting it. I used a reflective window tint, and not a normal window tint. For 2 reasons, reflective keeps the heat/uv rays out, and reflective means less prying eyes can look into your place.
It works very well at repelling heat in the summer, and keeps the room a good few degrees cooler.

Lol. Didn't know there was a brand called "Solar". So far I've only spent some time looking at a brand called "LLumar". I'd love to convert it to electricity, but I don't think such coatings exist yet (at least not commercially available - I vaguely recall reading that some research was being on this though). I just meant it in the sense of "coating to keep the sun out".
