Solid state drive/ Ram disk

SSD's are the way to go... look out for an article on them in Popular mechanics in coming months.

Look on Tom's Hardware for a review on that Gigabyte RAM drive. Bare in mind you still need to buy the dimms to stack on the card.

Yip, I don't want the gigabyte though :p

Siffilus system device. Instant access. Fast removal. Infects everything.

Then why post: ssd's is the way to go? ?

It might be that SSD's are that much better than the Ram drives?

My understanding from Ramdisks is that it needs constant power to keep the data stored, atleast the ramdisks we used in the past was nothing else than alocating a portion of your memory as a super fast harddisk.

The SSD's on the other hand, is similar to your digital camera or flashdrives in that it can keep data stored even when there is no power.

Cos they are...
I mean... they plug into an IDE or SATA cable, so are backward compatible, they work in the old external housings, etc. etc.

Just a very very nice idea IMO. By the way, you said SSD before me :D Check your title.

There are new notebook's coming out with SSD's, 32Gb solid state drives, they are sweet.

Advantages are next to NO seek time latency; much less heat; much less battery usage and the best - much more durable to shock and thanks to the new LED backlighting in notebook screens, you're going to see some really, really thin notebooks on the market.. well, after the prices drop down :P
