Hey everybody

I'm trying to find a solution to a problem that's been bugging me for a while. Basically, I want to channel all my email through Gmail, but one of my accounts @mighty.co.za no longer supports forwarding, and Gmail doesn't support fetchmail to automatically download from a POP3 server.

Is there a good solution to this? Does anyone know a free email provider that supports auto-downloading from a POP3 account and forwarding so I can set it up to download and pass on all my email?

Alternatively, can someone give me a clue as to what functions and libraries I could use in PHP to write a script that does the job? I can run it as a cron job on a server.

Any other ideas?

Thanks guys!

Why not forward all your other accounts to gmail, create separate settings for mighty.co.za and gmail in a 3rd party mail client like Outlook Express (please note I am by no means promoting Outlook) and then you can download everything with Outlook.

Yeah I could, but there are a few reasons I want the mighty account filtered through Gmail

1) Spam catcher on Gmail is the best I've ever encountered
2) Archiving so all my emails can be saved forever
3) Can access all my mail from anywhere

So

Thanks for the help, I've looked at that before, but unfortunatly I don't think my hosting provider will allow me to run that code on a shared server. Which is why I was looking essentially for a PHP version of fetchmail. Do you know if something like that exists?

Thanks again! :)

edit> Ok I think I found a Perl script, called GotMail... will try it

edit> Nope it requires modules that are unsupported by my ISP...

New Gmail Feature

Gmail has a new feature (think its called mail catcher) that will collect mail from all your pop accounts. It has only been available to select people so far as part of a beta, but I'm sure it will be generally available in the not so distant future. There is an article on techcrunch.com about that.

Only negative thing about Gmail is the privacy policy of course. The fact that your mail is stored on their servers indefinitely and that they seem to have very liberal attitude towards your private info. But thats another whole thread or two on its own. Search on google for more :)

I think its called Mail Fetcher but yeah - sounds encouraging for cases like this. Not as good as setting up a forward IMHO.
