Monday night I couldn't get a edge connection(since I've disabled 3g on my phone) form about 18:00 to 23:00. Well actually a couple times I did get a connection, but never for more than 15-20secs.

Tuesday only tried at 22:00 or 23:00 can't remember. Still had problems. Yesterday from 17:00. Yes, 17:00 couldn't connect. Eventually I got a connection, but closing the program I was using to open another one that needs net access means no connection. Went on till about 23:00.

It isn't always like this either, some days or weeks everything will work no problems.

These problems have been going on for the past few months. My girlfriend and I chat on mxit a lot and at this moment she thinks that I care enough about her to get a vodacom sim for when mtn is up ****. Problem is I can't get sms and calls obviously if a vodacom sim is in my phone, unless I get another phone for gprs use which I think is unnecessary.

It's quite obvious that the tower in my area is overloaded so I tried to think up solutions that might work.

1. Get everyone to make a schedule or plan where they could give up gprs use on certain days to be guaranteed gprs use on other days.

eg. I give up Fridays, Saturdays and Tuesdays to have certain it'll work the rest of the week.

Pros: Being able to tell my GF when I can't chat before hand will save me a lot of grief. Will also save me time when I just wanna browse the net. Trying for twop hours at a time really gets irritating.

Cons: A plan like this really shouldn't be needed when it should just work all the time.

2. Rate everyone. from level 1 to infinity. When a tower gets overloaded the lower level people get kicked off so the higher level people still can make use of the service.

The most obvious way of rating the people would be how much they spend every month. R1 could equal 1xp. Obviously if you have low xp you'll get kicked when it's busy.

I foresee mtn making more money off this idea. They could "xp bundles" where you could spend R10 but get 50xp. You wouldn't get airtime though. This would be a good way of helping the poor people get to a higher level.

Pros: I should be ok since I spend over R200 a month.
Cons: unfair to poor people when it should just work.

3. mtn actually just sends me an sms in the morning telling me that, that night I won't e able to connect so I won't be wasting my time trying. Also apologizing for being on mtn is starting to get old.

4. mtn publishes a map telling us which towers are overloaded so I can move somewhere where it just works.

So those are my ideas. If anyone wants to add to them please to do so.
