Some DStv channels not working when using decoder at a different house

I'm staying at a friend's house this weekend and want to use my own DStv decoder. It's a HD PVR 2P decoder which I normally use successfully with just one cable. There are normally some issues due to using one cable (e.g. the programming guide doesn't work and I don't actually use the PVR functionality), but other than that, all the channels normally work. However, when I plugged it in here, only some of the channels work, others tell me to check the set top box. Any ideas on fixing this? I've done the usual basic stuff like resetting and rescanning, but no luck. Signal strength shows up as 98% on the channels that work and 0% on the ones that don't.

The house does have a DStv connection, but it's on a cheaper package with an SD decoder. I'd settle for using my smart card in the SD decoder, but that doesn't seem to be possible according to the call centre. The DStv site talks about holiday home support for this, but if I try and register the SD decoder here it tells me it can't be linked, presumably because it's related to another subscription.

Only way one cable will show all channels is if it is pluggs into the SATcr port on decoder and using SATcr LNB, you will see if you move the cable from LNB1 to LNB2 on decoder the previous missing channels will be there but others will be missing again.

Not exactly correct as it depends entirely on the type of LNB installed.

If the place where you are staying is in a complex sharing a communal antenna system, there will special network settings involved.

Have a look at the network settings on the SD decoder and see what the settings are . Set your decoder the same as the SD decoder settings and then see what happens. Let us know what type of LNB is reflected on the SD decoder. It may help in coming up with a temporary solution.

If in a communal setup then there will be a number of networks setup, and you will have to set your decoder the same way to receive all the channels.

You cannot swop SCs between decoders for years now. Secondly, you cannot link to decoders under the holiday setup unless both decoders are registered under your account. It would be a very good idea not to try any of these solutions as you may end messing both accounts up. At the moment, MCs customer management system is very fragile and it is not a good idea to mess around with two different account numbers.
