The First Question:
Does the bulk of the traffic go through lan when using DC++ to share files on a large 100mbps lan (+/- 600 people on the lan at once) even when using a hub that is not on that lan?

I.E. I set up a hub on a static IP at my house and then from school/collage/vasity we connect to it but use the schools network to transfer the files...

The Second Question
Is it possible to connect to a hub through the kind of firewall the would put in between the lan and the internet cloud at a school/collage/vasity, posibly using an ADSL router maybe with NAT plus a hardware firewall, I am not really sure about the equipment they use.

PS* I would like to say were this thread is pertaining to but I am scared the admins at said place read this forum... :P

please please answer if u know the answer. I have helped many a noob myself and would really appreciate it...

thanx in advance

pierre

I am not sure what the DC++ means please expand the abbreviation
as it could mean Direct Cable | Connection?

Yes it is but why would you do that when you can set up a secure VPN to run a secured IP tunnel?

if you are trying to run the network and have dmz then you need a netgear router which will also allow you to run a secure VPN through a tunnel.

This way you can have both routed through different addresses, say you want the school to run on 10.0.0.1 and the wifi to run on 192.168.0.1 and the other dmz to run on 10.0.100.1 for serving doc to the pupils on the web you can use the netgear to do all that and set up a secure vpn pipe

just have a look at netgear's web site - you have not mentioned a budget the netgear Initiates up to 8 IPSec VPN tunnels simultaneously

this might help a bit http://www.netgear.com/Products/VPNandSSL/WiredVPNFirewallRouters/FVS318.aspx

DC++ is a filesharing utility not very well known in SA because you need to share massive amounts of data before you are really allowed to join the network - which at the price of b/w this country; is not viable. Anyhoo off the point soz; DC++ is peer 2 peer

Heya thanx for the help but I figured it out on my own, well the first Q anyway... I am lank proud of my self.. since I am just a kid :P I set up two seperate networks at my house to test it using a pc as the router between them, the DC++ client on network no. 1 connects to a hub on the other network and it reports that there are users on network no. 1, and the trafic all goes through the network that they are both on (no. 1) so I am asuming I could set this up but instead there would be the internet between the two...
