So I've been experiencing some glitchy internet with my current ISP. Decided it was time to part ways.
Gave notice last month and started the signup process with MTS.

MTS was on it immediately, they answered all questions and assured me I'd be in good hands.

Come lockdown, I'm working from home, having endless problems on current ISP, decided to call MTS and ask if they would mind setting me up pro-rata, as I'm on oOpenServe and have the luxury of ISP hopping.

Not even 5 minutes later, I got my ppoe details and my internet has been flawless since 13h15. It's early days, but I'm really glad I decided to make the move. Their customer service (despite the current situation) has been amazing and the network is great!

Yes, my experience with MTS has been good. A few minor glitches along the way, but they've been on them immediately.

How does ISP hopping on Fibre work exactly, I have a fibre connection and my ISP is struggling to deliver reliable latency within SA, not to mention internationally.

Really looking into MTS and CISP, but I've been told it could take days of downtime to switch ISPs on a SADV/Vuma line.

It shouldn't take days, but that is the worst case scenario we get from the FNO. Should be the same day your line is released. I would advise to avoid weekends however.

Awesome thanks,

Any ideas why a Fibre connection would have high latency to servers within SA?
None of the others in m neighborhood has such problems, yet between 1PM and 1AM depending, I have over 120ms ping to servers around SA, like Azure game servers for Rainbow Six and www.google.co.za. Whilst to others, the ping is perfect, like 3ms, what baffles me more is that this occurs semi-randomly.

Will switching ISPs return the latency to acceptable amounts? Is this to do with route propagation?

Do you have any example traces?

Yes, These are the PingPlotter results I sent to my ISP:
www.cronon.net.PNGwww.google.co.za (1).PNGwww.cloudfare.net.PNGwww.cloudfare.net.PNGwww.cloudfare.net.PNG
These were all taken at the same time, see the divergent results? Then my ISP asked for a MTR instead to which I sent them these:

It just doesn't make sense at all, is this a FNO problem? Will my latency be fixed if I switch ISPs?

Almost looks like Accelerit has very congested transit links. Loss and latency is coming once it hits Accelerits transit with Seacom. Latency to cloudflare is fine as expected because they peer with cloudflare directly in CPT so that means it never goes to their transit.

Since Google is based in JHB it looks like they are even using Seacom to transit the traffic to JHB and then Seacom (Their transit) peers with Google in JHB.

Wow how did they leave it to get so bad. It may seem as if Seacom transit if bad but it's not. Fire up Cloudflare warp and see that it's pretty flawless.

This is an Accelerit issue. Congestion by the looks of it and bad.

*stands to be corrected*

I really hope this is the case,

Then it should be as easy as switching ISPs. I'm looking at CISP and MTS at the moment and they look very nice. I've got friends in my neighborhood with CISP and they have no complaints.

Mainly, all I want is a stable ping for gaming and good download speed for streaming. (fam watches DSTV Now and Netflix)

Both DSTV Now and Netflix is served locally so any ISP should cater for that ideally...

MTS use Network Platforms you can find their looking glass here to check out pings what you would get: https://lg.as37497.net/

And if you interested in CISP pings pop over to their thread and ask, lots of friendly individuals who can help you out there.

Just an FYI using Network Platforms LG for a customer might give skewed results. Network Platforms may only be selectively announcing one of their customers compared to their own AS.

Mind the Speed does not even have an AS. All their IPs are Network Platforms. I would place some bets but MTS is Probably Network Platforms just with some fancy name for residential products. If it's it's not then I don't know they run like that because that would be the first time I see Network Platforms selling to ISPs like that. Others like InfoGro and Websquad buys transit from them if I'm not mistaken.

When i contacted MTS in December when Cool Ideas where having issues... They just sent me straight to Network Platforms, said i should ask them directly for ping results etc and Network Platforms trace routed a few tests for me and then after like 2 emails gave me the looking glass.

Yeah think it was mentioned before that they are Network Platforms

Google AS328596

AS328596 is assigned to Mind the Speed (PTY) Ltd on 2020-01-07 by the internet registry afrinic.

(One result still show Network Platforms but they havn't updated it seems)

AS328593 as mentioned, so you don't get visibility as to which paths or transit Network Platforms would be using for that AS, you can do some manual LG lookups. Network Platforms is an aggregator so they may use certain paths for certain AS's etc.
