Some international sites down?

This is crap. Internet connectivity is intermittently down, and then there are sites like Facebook, which I haven't been able to access all weekend! WTF!

I had trouble accessing Facebook all of this weekend (I'm on SAIX via Axxess), but it works fine if I use the SAIX proxy. (cache.saix.net:8080)

how do u change to openDNS servers?

having the same issues..

If you're using Windows XP, go to Control Panel > Network Connections
Right-click on your connection and select Properties
In the list, click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click on Properties
In the next window select "use the following DNS server addresses" and enter
Preferred DNS server: 208.67.222.22
Alternate DNS server: 208.67.220.220
Click on OK, OK, etc.
Close and re-open the browser. See if it makes a difference.

Once the problem is fixed at SAIX, change it back to "obtain DNS server address automatically" since browsing is then a bit faster since the SAIX DNS servers are local. But at least the change is a short term fix. Some ppl use the OpenDNS servers regardless.

Alternatively you can enable the SAIX proxy server, cache.saix.net port 8080. Change those settings in your browser options. I just don't like working through proxy servers for other reasons.

Switching over to OpenDNS is working for me too (Using WebAfrica).

Yeah - switching to OpenDNS did it for me - I am on Vista, changed the DNS servers in the router setup...

Possible Akamai problem

Hi,
Also having problems with Facebook, Yahoo, Adobe ... and akamai.com.
Akamai is the content distribution network behind the static content for l.yimg.com (Yahoo), static.ak.fbcdn.net (Facebook), and wwwimages.adobe.com (Adobe). Akamai answers DNS queries according to your source IP / network to direct you to its local cache. It looks like if you're on or downsteam of SAIX and you're being directed to the 196.14.182.150/1 Akamai servers then there are problems.
My 2c.

Tracert results look rather interesting yes, with requests dying off Outside of SA...

Have anyone done a tracert on the sites that are 'down'? Nvidia did not want to load for me last night, but loads now. Facebook is totally dead, but the tracert dies off at as-1.r20.asbnva01.us.bb.gin.ntt.net [129.250.4.20]. Does not seem to be a DNS issue at all though.

supersport.co.za stays loading when it gets to the adserver ..... m1.2mdn.net ...... just stop loading page and all is cool ... woot, no ads :D

m1.2mdn.net is on akamai and [-]loads[/-] connects fine for me via tracert.
