I've been running Ubuntu 9.10 now since its release and have recently setup a local/international adsl split using PPPOE. It works just fine, but I can't get it to connect properly at boot time. I've set up both providers in pppoeconf to run at boot, but when they start up the connections are dead. Another clue might lie in the fact that if I start Skype, it works on the "dead" connection. I'm trying to figure out why it would only open the port for skype and block the rest???
If I restart the connections (using ifdown/ifup), everything goes back to normal.
When i run ifconfig it also shows that the connections are up. It's not a major issue, just annoying that i have to start the connection manually each time.
How would i go about creating a script that could run the ifdown/ifup commands at boot time, without me having to enter the root password?
I would appreciate any help here - just cant get my head around this one.
btw- I'm not using the piece of cr@p Network Manger, I uninstalled that and I just set the connection up manually in /etc/network/interfaces.
I've set eth0 to use a static ip and setup the ip for the gateway.
