SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT AFRIHOST ADSL

Hey there everyone

Just needed to enquire before I purchase... I need some extra cheap bandwidth for some downloads. I only need some data for Deceember, so is it possible for me to purchase from Afrihost, an account for unshaped ADSL only for December and then cancel before the end of the month? Or do I need to pay for at least two months before cancelling?

Also, what are the speeds of the unshaped ADSL packages with Afrihost for downloads? Would be appreciated if someone would share their experiences with unshaped data on a 384kbps line.

You only have to give one months notice afaik, good luck with their accounts department though - I wouldn't attempt to e-mail them, rather phone them if you need assistance.

I really wouldn't go uncapped though if you only want it for a month, rather get a capped package (you not going to be able to download that much anyways on a 384k line), then you get full speed the whole time. They still have the 25gb + 25gb package for R475 which is a pretty good price, I'm really not even sure how much you can do in a month on a 384k line, maybe somebody can give some indication as to what size package would be suitable.
 
With 384kbps ADSL you should be able to do 90GB in 30 days if you download 24/7 at like 35-40kB/s. In a month with 31 days, you should actually be able to reach 100GB if you have an unshaped connection that would give you 40KB/s 24/7...

Rather go with prepaid accounts from like Axxess, OpenWeb or WebAfrica. OpenWeb doesn't require any personal information like WebAfrica does. I'm not sure about Axxess though.
The prepaid accounts are only valid for 1 month, but you do get prepaid accounts from WebAfrica that doesn't expire at the end of the month.
 
Thanks for the info... Think I'm gonna go with the Afrihost 20gb package... I don't need to download like crazy but I need a bit more than 5gb which I get with Telkom every month... Afrihost's Daecember special is quite good, for most of their ADSL packages, you get 75% off their normal prices. The 20gb unshaped package is about R380 usually, but with their discounts it's R82.74 for December :D
 
I ordered their 4mb uncapped account . Blazing away at 15kbs :rolleyes:
