Found this series of SSDs. They ship from Japan, worldwide, also to SA.

PhotoFast G-Monster PCI-e GM-PCIE1TBSSDM [1TB] 750MB/sec
475,500 Yen = $5,000.

PhotoFast G-Monster V2 256GB 2.5" SSD [FAST!] PF25S256GSSDV2
67,800 Yen = $714 = R6100.

There is also a cheapie:
PhotoFast DYI SATA SSD takes 6 SDHC cards - 12,000 Yen = $126

Still quite expensive.

Well are they expensive when okes are dropping 7k on gpu's and 10k+ on i7 systems?

Well 1TB lol HDD costs R863 - that was a special, but they go for about R1000 abroad. Here a 1TB SSD costs R45,000 - that is expensive.

Secondly most GPUs - best ones will only cost R3500 to R4000 and those are South African prices and not R7,000. Personally I wouldn't buy a 3D card over R2,000 for games.

Yeah, very expensive. A 256GB SSD costs R6100 + $50-100 ship + VAT, not cheap. It would probably cost an extra 30% here on top of that.

Really top nvidia and ati cards for 3k/4k?, when you come back to planet earth give us a shout peter.

Show me a 295 for 4k

Sorry, but I have to point out a few flaws in your posts.

Firstly, As killa said, if you can fork out R6500 for a GFX card, surely you can fork out R2800 odd for an SSD Drive.

Secondly, Top of the line GPU's do cost R40,000 odd.

Thirdly, As a 3D Animation Artist, even a 32GB is doable (preferably 60GB) - You only need enough space for windows, 3dsmax/maya, ZBrush, Photoshop and so on - you don't need 1TB SSD, movies and so on open fast enough as it is (1 second?) you only need it for your OS, a few programs (even highend software) and perhaps even a few games

To sum it all up, the 1TB SSD's are a niche for a niche market just like R45Grand GFX cards, R20,000 CPU's and R15000 server mobo's.
heck, i've worked at a company where a scanner costs over R1,000,000 and the software they run even more

Ok you're mixing ideas here. A R6500 GPU is not a professional GPU unless you wish to use a gamer SLI GPU for professional graphics. The pro GPUs sell at $3000 and up and are not aimed at mainstream users.

Then you talk about R15000 server motherboards and R1,000,000 scanners.

Obviously for professional purposes a R45,000 1TB drive is not expensive, if you really need it, but for most users a R6000 128GB SSD is too expensive, considering a RAID-0 of two 1TB drives costs R2000. That will saturate your CPU and memory already if you're talking RAW 1080P
video workflow or dunno what.

Unless MyBB has become some corporate forum for Pixar Execs where they procure their equipment, I assume we speak of common or even enthusiast usage.

SSDs are VERY expensive, still. Look Keeper, I guess I could drink the Coolaid too and become all euphoric about SSDs, but as is they are too expensive, and I do spend big occasionally - but SSD is still TOO expensive.
