Some traffic officer ticketed me incorrectly

So I was parked at the beach this evening and came back to a fine stuck on my window. The fine was that I did not have a license disk or the disk was plainly visible. The frustrating thing is that the disc was valid and on my windscreen, except that it was upside down (Probably through vibration.)

The date on the disc was clearly visible. This sounds like the traffic officer was taking a chance and trying to meet quotas but the fact that the disk was upside down (But clearly visible) might be some technical loophole about the visibility.

So any ideas? If possible I'd rather not have to pay R300.00 for having a properly licensed vehicle displaying my license.
 
First action: Just chuck it away (like the wind has blown it into the sea). Let them find you with a summons for which you have to sign personally. Then if it goes to court show them your licence disk and proof of date purchased. Ultimately let them work for their money, and they are too lazy for that so you will 99% never hear from them again.

+1 Got a fine for parking in a "red" line on private property.. havn't got anything in mail. Wait to see if you get something in mail, then cause fuss

Are you in Cape Town by any chance? If yes, I might be able to help. If not then can't help you.
 
Where was the disk fitted? In terms of regulation 36 if the vehicle is fitted with a transparent windscreen it must fitted to the lower left hand corner of the windscreen in such a manner that the print on the face of the licence disc is visible to a person standing in front or to the left of the vehicle. No mention is made regarding the orientation.

Also, affix your disk better... vibrations? Come on, this is not a Beach Boys song :p

You might want to check the fineprint on the fine you received - Generally a ticket/on the spot fine states you have to appear in court on a said date or pay an admission of guilt fine before a certain date. You will not get a followup notice via the mail but most likely a summons for contempt of court for not appearing on the date.

I've got a plastic disk holder with about 0.5mm of space inside, and the disk does rotate slightly over time. Nothing like upside down though.

oh well, renewed license months later no issues..

Not in town even anymore LOL
 
Hey Totempole, I am in Cape Town.

Radian, I like to stick on the right side of the law. I'm boring that way.

Geezer, the disk is positioned correctly, lower left, above the windscreen wiper so it is unobstructed.

Froot, that is the setup I have. Mine did end up upside down somehow. I can only assume it was vibration that did it.

Wait.. so there are vehicles fitted with non-transparent windscreens?
 
I had an officious lady traffic cop "warn" me about my licence, since a seagull had done a poo on the windscreen over the licence disc. I suggested she lick it off if she wanted to see the date, but this did not go down well.
