Hi Everybody

I have the strangest problem on my network, that is driving me nuts. On the network there 6 pc's, all of them running xp, and can access all websites fine. When I connect my laptop, also xp, some websites (hotmail.com;opendns.com), will load but it will never complete/display. If I go to any other computer, it access the site fine. All tcp/ip settings and dns, it exactly the same. I have even formatted my laptop and started with a clean install, just incase there is perhaps a program blocking these site, yet no luck.

Any help?

Change the port/cable you plugging into the network with, may be a issue on the switches port (crc errors/packet discards etc).

Thanks, for the reply. But no luck on that. I have taken a port straight out of the pc that can access hotmail.com, and still it won't display.

I have also tried different browser. When I try and access opendns.com, the tab shows title of the page, like when it is about to show, and it says on the bottom of firefox, "transferring data......", the page just won't display. The tab loads continuously.

I have found that with some websites, it would say loading data, and only when I "double clutch" the browser, by hitting stop and enter a view times, it loads fully.

I have tried ie and firefox. Where do I check the proxy settings?

I have found this problem with MTU settings mismatched, worth a look, but not sure if its ur problem here..

In FF: Click on Tools -> Options -> Network -> Settings
In IE:Click on Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> Lan Settings

THANK YOU SO MUCH! This was the problem, I have changed my mtu settings according to this page http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/tweak2.htm and used a program call dr.tcp.

I feel so warm inside, seeing hotmail and facebook load. I might even shed a tear of joy.

no problem, its odd that even after a clean install ur settings were off...unless u were not using windows...

I get a cold feeling seeing anything to do with hotmail. Just get Gmail, and never EVER look back :)

Agreed

There was no gmail 10 years ago, I don't even think google was around then, good old yahoo and altavista days. :p

Delete all cookies and internet history first. If you face same problem again then check your plug ins and connections.
