jeez guys i didn't even know my router (netgear Gt 834UK) had a password. Any help on how to change it?? do i do it from my laptop??
Silkman. Do you have your Router's Manual?
It will list the default User name and Password and the IP.

E.g. IP may be 192.168.1.1 ; User name = Admin ; Password = 1234

It all depends on what Router you have.
Just type the IP into your Internet browser and the Log on Screen will appear asking for the User name and Password or just the Password.
It is imperative that you change the password on your Router as a matter of urgency if it is the default password!

If for some reason you have the telkom modem:
IP : 10.0.0.2
Username : admin
Password : administrator

I do not understand why nothing can be done against a bandwidth thief. All the above posts make out like it is the victim's fault and threfore its his tough luck.

Surely someone can post an intelligent response of the proper legal route to follow when this happens. It is not a stupid question that is being asked.

If someone steals my bandwidth, I will follow the correct procedure whatever that might be and however fruitless.

If the customer wish to find the other party involved, they need to open a police case for bandwidth theft or fraud. Once the case number has been isseud, the customer needs to request the investigating officer at the police station to request a Sec 205 Subpoena made in the name of Telkom SA Ltd for the following. The telephone numbers that is used to access the ADSL platform. The physical address and the registered owner details of the telephone numbers. Once the Sec 205 has been granted, the police officer needs to hand the Sec 205 to their Technical Support Unit (TSU) for delivery upon Telkom SA Ltd.

So to repeat:

1. Open a police case for bandwidth theft or fraud.
2. Once the case number has been issued, the customer needs to request the investigating officer at the police station to request a Sec 205 Subpoena made in the name of Telkom SA Ltd for the following.

This is something I would do! Seems like a huge amount of effort that would be very frustrating, but it is the principle of the thing that concerns me.

Do you know if there would be any cost to the victim in all this action?
