What firewall u using?

I hate fsckers like that who just keep on trying even though there is no response... and wasting your precious bandwidth...

*What firewall u using?*

One guess? Ja the dreaded Nortons no less
and no clue how to manage it. Early Xmas wish list: a completely different security setup and 24 home lessons with a tutor.
O ja and Im going to win the Lotto next week too :D

Norton firewall is crap, and I don't trust it...

If you're using the iBurst desktop Ethernet modem, why not sacrifice an old PC, install Smoothwall on it, and be better protected than Nortons? Plus is, you get to have nice things like the Bandview monitor (view your bandwidth usage), web visit logging, dansguardian content filter (block pr0n sites, advert sites, bandwidth-wasting sites) and the such.

If you're really interested, and is in the Pretoria area, then I'm willing to come and demonstrate Smoothwall for you...

I can remember that Norton will complain about something like that, even though the traffic was harmless, but can't remember the specific details. Besides, it's a complex thingy, and I don't trust complex thingies, but rather something simple which you can enhance to suit your needs.

Yep, like Brad zez - might be a stupid zombie somewhere with a fixation for your IP addy and Norton... :D

*sigh you are very kind... but somewhat further away than that.. However, if u are ever down in Durban for a few days you are welcome to slum it at our place and see for yourself the mess we are in - pretty sad really...
and the other suggestion that there is a zombie involved?
Yeah well i thought it pretty much common knowledge that weve been droned for years - after all i am. Still kind of both of you to take the time to reply and its much appreciated.

Heyup Toad...

You can install Smoothwall by yourself, it just takes a bit of time the first time round (figuring out what the fsck you're supposed to do and so on) but the second time it's easier.

It's really not that complicated. A SmoothGuru can have a installation up and running in less than 30 minutes, not counting the time spend in connecting the CD-ROM and others thingamabobsies to the PC...

A novice can manage in 45 minutes.

Luckily the Smoothwall Community Forum is very active and full of friendly people willing to help.

So, give it a shot, you have nothing to lose, except a few minutes of your life and that PC gathering dust in the garage. (At least you'll need a Pentium 2 with 64Mb RAM). But, the advantage is that you get to work with Linux. And you get to see what precisely IE6/IE7 is doing...
