Gentlemen,

On 11 and 12 October my usage statistics show a huge download AND upload of around 120 Mb, amounting to almost 10% of my monthly cap. I am awaiting an explanation from Telkom, but would like to know if any of you have had a similar experience.

Also, have any of you dealt with MegaLan, as I am considering a switch to them.

On the 9th 10th 11th my total usage was over 550Mb and to avoid the dreaded CAP, I take the line down once MY monitor tells me I have used 100Mb in any one day.
So something like 250Mb was also stolen from me. This is not the first time - I log my usage (from Telkom) daily.
I will watch carefully to see if Telkom reply to you.
Lets hope there is no real continued threat of "missing" usage!!!!!

Thing is, I switched the router off over the weekend - they installed everything on Friday and I didn't get a chance to configure the securities, so I left it off, and still a huge usage is logged for my account?!

Your login name/password might be compromised.

Ask Telkom to change your password.

Then see what happens.

you probably have a worm. better install a good virus checker

I've had the same problem this month. According to Telkoms graph I have uploaded over 1GB worth of data in the first week of this month. I know this is absolutely impossible. The first thing I thought of was a virus, but have checked my computers with both norton and mcafee and all are clear. The most frustrating thing of all is that no one at Telkom can give me a reason or a solution. I've spoken to 5 different people at Telkom and no one has been helpful and none of them have bothered to phone me back even when they promised they would.

Was your router switched off like mine? There's no chance of a virus infection here - I think someone at Telkom is using my account whenever it's inactive!

This is a possibility , that they are useing ur accounts i mean why not and try proove something , and even if u do they want do nothing .
The thing about them saying they will call u and they dont i have experinaced that one to many times they service is terible .

I've encountered this problem as well. I had Telkom send me the logs and it clearly shows they have a logging problem. They logged the same session's usage four times over. Because of this I was capped on the first of this month because I downloaded 980MB on the last day of the previous month and teh session ended early on the 1st + the four times logging problem.

So what the hell can we do about it - squat. Moaned in their ears for 3 days and finally they changed my password for me, now I'll test it over the weekend to see if my usage goes up. If it does, I'm cancelling my account and going over to MegaLan.

Make sure to:

1. change root/admin password
2. delete telnet users

Stolen Bandwidth,

Also have this problem. Hit the 3 gig cap without even using service.
I have been shown to have used 980mb of "uploads" all I do is send a few e-mails, some with small jpeg attachments admittedly probably 50 mb max.

I do really hate the cap!! Have changed p/word & hope this helps.
At telkom thay all (operators at 0800)can see passwords, so whats to stop them giving out your p/word to others?
Another interesting point is that my tracker shows a perfect increase
all month long - a perfect "climbing" chart ! Every step increases by the same amount every day religously!! What crap! Does anyone else's tracker show this?
Will have to look at Megawan also.

Rick.

In Europe some isp are starting to cap there users. It ranges from 4-6 gig per day !!!! ADSL is approx the same price there as what we pay here ? TELKOM IS RIPPING US OF !![:(!]
