hi

i just converted my 1gb do broadband to the 2gb level this month as the 1gb just wasn't sufficient.
now my computer was bust the whole of last week since i lost my whole hard drive contents. now i reinstalled and got back online only to find my usage tracker says i've used over 700mb of my 2gb cap already! how weird...
the only times i used the net this past week was to download some small partition recovery software etc. i wouldnt think it should all add up to 700mb!!! astonishing...

does anyone think i have a leak somewhere in my connection? (like someone stealing off the connection perhaps wirelessly? )
also, does a wireless connection use more than lan connection? coz i was using my sisters laptop wirelessly to get those programs for my hard drive.

could be many things..

you can use antibody's saix stats analyser to check for more than 1 connection on your account..

you can also try running a virus scan on your pc(s) as you may have something like a trojan downloader

other than that i would suggest changing the password on your isp account and router just to be safe

Same thing with my SAIX account away for past 2 days all turned off and unplugged (including ADSL router from phone line) and connections shown and data used!

I can vouch for antibody's SASA application - it picked up some abuse on the company ADSL account

It's extremely easy to use, and it will help you to see when there's a problem. :)

Good luck.

you mentioned you used wireless using your sisters laptop, is your wireless open, or secured, did you have to use a WPA /WEP key before you gained access on her laptop or did it just work?

If open your neighbors could be helping themselves to it!

Have a look at my thread here. I have around 2.5MB disappearing every day, even with my router switched off - no additional connections and with a 27-character randomly generated password that I changed 7 times over the last 3 months.

right...can anyone show me the link to antibody's saix analyser please? i'd like to try that out.

@[X]: my antivirus was kaspersky 6 until now...but they blacklisted me after my reinstall...so having some problem there.
i did change the pwd on both. but i'll try again, just to be sure.

@mrmikey: i havent allowed upgrades or anything of the sort, though i have reinstalled my os. and its not vista..still on xp:)

@jeppe: yea, i'd disconnected on the 30th morning. new account started on the 1st december.

@echoZA: sorry mate...lol...seems we're all in thick telscum soup:P

@thelibrarian: okie dokie...will try it out soon as i get the link...

@thedoc: yea, its wireless and i really am clueless as to what kind of connection to use...wep or wap or whatever. would you know which is safe and best to use? yea, it requested a password first. and then its always connected whenever i turn the wireless mode on...(note that the os is vista on her laptop)

@icbxx: whoa there man, that seems weird...alien works or something...hehe...i wouldnt be surprised though...its prolly telscum licking off everyone while we sleep...

so thats it all in a nutshell....hehe...i'm still searching for the best antivirus to install...anyone could help me out with that one;)

okay...cool...thank you for that Havoc. i checked it out and it gives me the same results as the titracker did.

oh btw, i managed to get all my partitions back safe and sound. yippee...i just doodled with hirens boot disc and explored all the programs...and voila...it worked. not including details here:P

thanks go to all that helped me out...:D
