Something strange I noticed during loadshedding.

So I have this fan that beeps when you turn it on via the remote etc.

During loadshedding I would hear it faintly beep a couple of times, thinking this was just a capacitor I just ignored it.

Today I connected a multimeter in one of the sockets and found that every time it beeps I would get a voltage reading of 3-4 volts and then back to zero.

Anyone have an idea on what's going on?

Disconnect the fan.

Could be a neighbour with a generator not following the regulations.

3-4 volts is pretty low though.

Clearly some current is leaking into your electrics somehow. Next time there's loadshedding, drop your main switch and earth leakage switch and see if it happens again. At least then you can determine whether the leakage is coming through from the mains feed, or if it's something internal to your house.

How long is the pulse? It might actually be much higher voltage than that, just filtered by the multimeter. You need an oscilloscope to get a better look.

Anyway it's probably induced voltage. Lots of potential sources.
