For the past month, every time that my friend, who lives in Gaza, phone me, it show up with a local number. It is not the same number, but random local numbers starting with +27 82 ### ####. I have tried to phone this numbers but no answer from any of these numbers.

Can anyone enlight me of what is going on here. I am on Vodacom network. Lately I also get a lot of miss calls from numbers that does not display at all and also a lot of wrong calls to my number.

:confused::erm::rolleyes:

How does your friend phone you? Via a normal phone?

He could be using Skype out or another VOIP solution which then has a "voip server" here with local number

My best guess.

The Gaza link is probably a trunk line, which Vodacom will terminate on their network, create a temporary MSISDN, and connect the call to you. Think of it as hooking up a cellphone network to a walky talky. Anyway.. GAZA.. wtf... your lucky you can get anything out of there what with the infadels running around all over the place blowing everything without a yammika (spell?) to oblivion.. :)

Thanks for the info. He is using a cell phone, did mention the name, and according to Vodacom here they do have a contract with the cell phone company in Gaza. I did ask Vodacom and they said that they will have to look into it. Could not give me any answer on this. I thought that maybe some one here had the same experiense. Would love to know how this can happen.

Thanks for your input, but I must say I do not appreciate the last part of your nessage. For you information, my friend work for the UN in Gaza and also for human rights, so please think again before you leave a comment like this.

Even though he's using a cellphone, he could still be using VoIP. I can use Fring to access my Skype account from say the UK with a UK SIM and Skype out would show my call as a +2772 number.
