Sonic Telecom Feedback

Thank you for that. We use about 600Gb per month with no downloading (mostly streaming). Hopefully that will be good with them. I'll prob just mail them and ask

Wtf 600GB just for streaming. U must either have a huge family or ure watching a lot of streams. I couldn't even get close to that while on wireless and I downloaded big PS4 gaming files digitally as well. Now that I'm fibre, it might be a different ball game I presume?

Has anyone tried mobile and platform video gaming on the Sonic Wireless network ? I know they talk about low latency but that's only half of the actual story. Please let me know asap.

I played PS4 online for 4yrs while I was on wireless with them and I never had huge issues. The occasional lagging, etc did occur but not as much as to interfere with a smooth online experience. I've now changed over to Fibre with them too.

So I eventually had to end my service with Sonic as they are not able to provide speeds over 50 on the Vumatel network. Back to looking for a new ISP. Considering going with Axxess and their 2 months free deal.

I'm with Sonic on Vumatel and I'm getting 100mbs on the 5Ghz frequency and 38-50mbs on the 2.4Ghz. So how can this be???????

BTW I see if u migrate from an existing ISP, then Afrihost offers you a 3mths free deal but u have to sign up for 6mths. If u cancel within that period u pay a penalty of R999 to cover the cost of the 3mths free option?

Very good to know. They always had faster packages but they have stopped selling. They are also no longer listing any of their packages on their website or the Vumatel shop.

Oh! And they blocked me from accessing the Vumatel shop until I threw my toys. Obviously, do not want their clients to browse the competition's products!

I am happy to commit for 6months if I can get 2 months free.

Yeah I thought it was worth it too, if you're in the market for a new ISP. Wtf they block u form accessing the competition's shops, geez lol? Just tell me, what was the issue that u couldn't get more than 50mbs with Sonic again?

They can not guarantee speeds higher than 50 on the Vumatel network.... So they removed the packages.

Geez Louise!!!! Prices are back up on their website!!!

Check this deal: (Note the soft-cap!)

But that is Fushion Fibre, it's not regular Fibre. I have 100/10mbs uncapped fibre with Sonic and it runs like a charm but only on the 5Ghz frequency. The 2.4Ghz gives u between 25-50mbs. So I connected my ps4 up via LAN cable to ensure full download speeds as I download huge gaming files.

I'm now in my 5th year with them, and no complaints at all. Still on wireless, but will surely switch to one of their fibre offerings when that becomes available in my area.

I had mostly good service from them on WISP but the last 3mths or so it went a bit haywire. If juts transferred to fibre with them too since 16 July and so far so good. The only thing is now I'm battling with this months pro rata account again, because it was half month wireless/fibre ffs.

A R1000 less, may I ask how much you're paying now and what package?
At the time Sonic Wanted R 2,200 where I could get Fibre for R 1,200. Can't remember Sonic's line specs. but Fibre was 100Mbps down and 25Mbps up. Bear in mind this is about 4 years ago.

I also had good dealings with them. They are accommodating and go out of their way to assist, typical small company personal service vibe.
They claim to have over 5000 clients now, wonder how it compares in numbers to other bigger ISPs?

Thanks for everyone's feedback here.

I have just logged my first support ticket.

The request is to enable DMZ on the TP-Link Router that they came to install yesterday it should not cause major havoc or require escalation to their more advanced support team members.

I will post my findings of how it played off in this thread.
And I got a Tenda router from them, isn't that kinda strange. Would've thought they would roll out one standard router throughout?

Seems that this company is falling to pieces.

Update:

I was subscribed to their fibre service and when I needed to upgrade the bandwidth on my line I was advised that they can not offer higher than 50 Mbps speeds. I moved my line to another ISP and Sonic has scheduled to have their equipment removed on 3 Dec 2019 @ 14h30 I have cleared my schedule and made sure to be at the premise at the time. After nobody has pitched up by 16h00 I phoned the office to enquire and was merely told that they are running behind and will not be able to make it. I requested they contact me in the new year when I am back from holiday to re-schedule. They then decided to debit my bank account with the value of the equipment...... Needless to say, I did not find this to be very amusing. They have since come to collect the equipment on 16 Jan 2020 and ever since all my calls and emails to Michelle Enslin (Customer Relations) and the accounts department got ignored. It is now 9 March 2020 and my money has still not been refunded.

Stay VERY far away from these people. VERY far.

I was a customer for about 4 years (fixed wireless) and the service was great, until they started merging with Herotel. From there onwards, support was up to crap, didn't get responses on tickets, there were instances where I notified them of a service outage! Michelle Enslin (Customer Relations) seems to be the only person working there; she dealt with my cancellation when I went to Vumatel + MTS fibre. Sonic pricing is ridiculous compared to the other ISP's. Sad to see where it's going. I voted with my wallet!

Been with them for about 3 years+ now, they were alright before Herotel took over, even before that service is intermittent at best with their support, NOC etc. Don't expect an answer from them if you have any sort of technical issue, they don't seem to monitor their network or backbone at all for issues, only jump onto the issue once it's a big thing. Been on Fibre since April/March 2018 and been paying R849 for 10/2, YouTube works okay, Twitch is barely watchable, even on 480p. Line speeds are wonky at best too. Rather stay away from these people unless you have no choice.

So this WISP started to trottle on a weekly basis without any of the clients signing or agreeing to it
there FUP was like any other isp . you go over the limit you get throttled .
Now if you update one game or DL a game u get throttled

I questioned it and asked where i sign up to get weekly throttle . they ignored me as of this post
I joined them when they were Sonictelecoms . this suport lady tell me cuz they changed names this is fair of them doing something like that. I didnt sign up to get throttled weekly

[16:35, 10/28/2020] Number removed : We are no longer Sonic but Herotel Sonic

[16:35, 10/28/2020] Malcolm: Sorry even if u change name the contract still stand
