Hey guys
So, another company has kindly given me an old Sonicwall 2400 for me to use. They in turn acquired it when they bought another company and since they had an existing firewall, this one just became a spare.
Now - I have never set one up before and have no idea what is involved - but just wanted to clarify a few things before I called out my IT company to have it installed.
I tried registering on the sonicwall.com website but see the serial number is already registered to another account. I called the IT guy from the company I got it from and he said since it was registered in the name of the company that was acquired and used their email address, he has no way of logging into the account to transfer the serial number to my account. He did say it shouldnt matter though, and that all I will be missing out on is firmware updates. Is this true?
I basically needed a firewall to help control the internet usage in my company, to improve our security and to help create virtual networks so I can segregate my manufacturing machinery from the rest of the network. Not sure if this is overkill or not - I have about 30 users on my network and about 50 IP's.
Thanks!
