Is there a similar outdoor waterproof plug socket available locally?

The only reason I don’t quite like this one is that if you plan to leave it plugged in permanently the door doesn’t close so there’s a risk of rain in heavy wind still getting in there.

I checked Builders today for the boxes and could put an Astute in one but it would be massive and also outrageously expensive compared to this.

Robofactory seems the best price if there are no other options. Has anyone got one of these? Does a PVC pipe simply run into the bottom? I presume I can just extend my existing plug at the borehole with some 2.5mm inside PVC and silicone up any angle joints.

I bought one of the S55 a couple of years ago but as you say, you can't leave anything plugged in which is pretty stupid. One use for this would be to add this to the boundary wall so the gardener can use the socket to mow the lawn. Obviously it would be turned off when he's not at work.

An alternative is just a bog standard outdoor wall socket (either 2x2 or 4x4) and then a sonoff switch controlling it.

Even then you can only plug in a 3-prong plug as there's no room for a AC/DC adapter.

Yeah I have an existing outlet at my borehole that I now need to extend for a pool pump a couple of metres away.

So making it smart is useful for obvious reasons.

Fortunately it’s a 3-prong and it seems the S55 will at least cover it from anything directly from above. Could probably automate something to turn it off when it’s raining.

It’s so well priced maybe the answer is to just put it inside another box with a slide cover.

Biggest issue with using a box standard one is that I don’t have anywhere nice to fit the smart switch for it.

Yeah I saw that today but the problem there is you can’t leave it plugged in at all as it’s permanently exposed.

It’s also rather expensive for a very dumb switch and you need to install the actual switch separately if you want one.
Are expensive, but carries the wife approval and was the only one I could find that fitted on the square tube of the carport without overhang.

@SauRoNZA

Why not just cut the 3-prong plug off and use a normal Sonoff Power in a waterproof box? I do this for all my outside lights.

Mostly because I expect I might want to remove the pump in winter or at least for maintenance it makes it easier.

It is certainly an option.

I was of a mind to cut the plug off and simply extend the wiring and use the existing plug but then I still need to do something for the smart factor and figured might as well just run a socket closer.

I figure I’m just going to get the S55 and put it inside another enclosure since it’s reasonably cheap to start with.

For quick disconnects and simply everything else that needs an electrical terminal connection, these are your friends.

They come sized in 2, 3 and 5. Chocolate blocks are for dummies.

Yeah I use them, but they would still need to be hidden somewhere and that’s the real challenge.

Plug also has the benefit of being useful for other things like lawnmower or power tools.

Communica.

So @hilton I ended up doing sort of what you suggested when I found I have an old Sonoff POW2 laying around and the noise of the pump was irritating me.

Put that inside an outdoor housing for all of R80 and bought some extension wire to run it to the other plug.

Just put a plug on the end because I wanted to avoid the short term effort due to the ivy needing to be cut back and then ironically it was too fat to fit in and close the door much like the Sonoff would have been.

Will fit a flatter plug tomorrow.

Is it just me or did all replacement plugs become annoyingly hard to work with? It’s all screws and no clips any more.
