Sony 3D LED TVs back on top!

Expect to pay twice of that price in SA after doing the exchange rate conversion just because it's a Sony.

Normally it's only a bit more then the equivalent Samsung, but I'd still take a Samsung over a Sony anyday.

Samsung Televisions are assembled locally and therefore the pricing is much more competitive.

I just bought the Samsung UA46E6200 (46" 3D Smart Slim LED TV with Built in Wifi) and it is amazing, all for R10k with a 3D Blu-Ray Player.

"revive growth after racking up 692 billion yen in losses selling TVs in the past eight years amid competition with market leader Samsung." I couldn't bring myself to buy a product backed by an eight year loss in the division.

Nice 6 Series LCD TV and good to see the price has come down from around R12k a few months ago. I'm always interested in what makes people decide on their purchases. Why not the PS51E550 5 Series 51" FHD 3D plasma for R9k? It cleans the ES6200 in picture quality.

Plasma looks washed out compared to LED.

I don't know hoe these salespeople think when they put a Samsung ES8000 next to a 60'' Samsung plasma.

It's actually the other way around. Where did you test, and does your room have similar lighting conditions during viewing time?

The salespeople would just put an E8000 plasma next to the ES8000 LCD, which once again cleans it (highest rated TV on www.televisioninfo.com).

On what do you base this comment, other than your own preference for plasma technology?

Owners, particularly of both technologies.

For example, PSxxE550 vs UAxxES6200:

I picked up my Samsung 60E550 Plasma on Friday. What an awesome display!
Good price too.
It blows my ES6200 LED in picture quality.

Anyone got calibration settings?

3 year old PSxxB6x0 vs UAxxES6200:

my 3 year old plasma beats my 3 month old led for PQ (both 6 series). IR Not an issue as well

I think you'd find anyone interested in superior picture quality would have preference for plasma technology.

I feel that Plasma vs. LED LCD is a personal preference. I think OLED's will beat the s*** out of Plasma when they come in properly. Maybe Plasma's have come a long way, but just some things I've noticed with Plasma's in the past really put me off:

- Screen flicker on brighter scenes (my eyes are really sensitive to this - battle with active 3D, CRT's etc.)
- Much higher power consumption
- Screen size needs to be massive in Plasma to get Full HD (50" +)
- Screen burn in

I would take the slightly reduced contrast anyday over the flicker.

A mate of mine had an LG Plasma, and it suffered from screen burn from the SuperSport Logo, as well as the black strips from 4:3 television. It eventually went away after leaving the TV on for 3 straight days looping a planet earth Blu-Ray, but still I don't find that ideal at all.

Spoontech many of those are non-issues for modern Plasmas.

I've never seen screen flicker on mine. Unlike LCD which has a terrible frame stutter though, none of that happens on Plasma.

Power consumption is slightly higher but not by much.

Screen size always has to be large for Plasma to be economically viable, it's got nothing to do with the resolution really.

Screen burn-in is a non-issue. Or as little of one as it is on LCD/LED.

I'd still take a Samsung over a Sony anyday.

This.

I have to agree with Spoontech though in that the LCD/LED vs Plasma is personal preference so the whole debate is mostly pointless. Before buying my TV I went and looked at all the Plasma and LED/LCD TV's (mostly Samsung) within my budget and to MY eyes the picture on the LED looked the best which is why I bought it at the end of the day.

To others the picture on a plasma will look better again.
