Sony 84-inch ultra-HD LCD expected

For rich people with their own home theatre, this might be the answer to poor picture control from HD projectors. Saw an Oppo HD projector that sells for $48000 in New York and after the ahhs and aws had faded away and looked carefully, it was still not as good as a 60" Panasonic plasma display, which sells here for about R 55000.

The maximum resolution would be really a guide to its capabilities. I know of one person in Boston would be on the phone right away ordering one of these. I was in his theatre in Sep last year where he was showing me his top of the range Polaroid projector, but still thought that the contrast was not as good as many large TVs.

btw, the Polaroid used double HDMI connectors between the projector and amplifier. There was some BS explanation in the book about this, but the guys who set it up said that 2, 25 feet regular HDMI leads were cheaper than some super-duper HDMI cable costing hundreds of dollars that still not might transmit the correct signal. I once unplugged one of the HDMI cables and there was no visible difference.

Well not exactly. At the money it is expected that 4K display devices will include very sophisticated/powerful upscaling circuitry to enhance standard 1080p (2K) input to 4K output. Some evaluation here on Sony's 4K projector ... http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/17/sony-vpl-vw1000es-projector-native-4k/

Also the screen sizes of 4K devices are meant to bring you closer a cinema type immersion experience (field of view). But at the standard TV viewing distances 9ft (2.7m) the pixels on an 1080p 84"+ TV will become apparent to the viewer, so one needs to increase the pixel count (2MP -> 8MP) to maintain the illusion of a seamless picture.
