Hey all.
I am in a bit of a dilemma here in terms of what to purchase. I have a budget of R22K to purchase a camera, and to start a 50mm 1.8. I will be receiving some more cash come next month, and Feb as well, whereby I can purchase something in the R10K range at a stretch. From there, we will see what focal length is best serving, or which I would appreciate more.
I am coming from a Canon 550D which I have been shooting with for the past year or so. I am using the 50mm 1.8, as well as the 85mm. I much prefer the 50mm. Even though my shooting choice is portrait and "documentary" style stuff. I hardly use video at all. I could be open to it in the future, but for now, I really don't care much for it. But one never knows what you will encounter.
I would like to hear what you all think of the two options, the longevity of the system, and the like. I would like to start investing into a system. I can get the R for R17, and the A7III for the same price, really. I also see the Nikon Z6 for a similar price, but their 1.8 is R10k basically. So it's out of the picture. From what I have seen, their auto focus is also lacking on the earlier models.
I see the A7III has IBIS, which is a plus, as well as their cheaper lenses on offer compared to the Canon. However, I do know that their video beats the R hands down...but I am not invested in video at this moment...but I am open. So that has some persuasion.
I watch and follow Sean Tucker a lot, and love his philosophy behind the art, and seeing what he has to say about the A7III changing from Canon (Granted, more for video), I seem to be slightly leaning this way. But brand loyalty has always been to Canon (Even after owning a D750).
Bottom line, I would love to hear what you would choose if you had the choice. This is the R, and not the RP, just to reiterate. I was watching a great video from the Daily Mail with a war photographer and his minimal setup, and he was using the R....but hey.
Or...crazy ball thrown stuff - A Fujifilm X-H1 with Battery Grip and the 35mm f2 or 50 f2....
With the Canon 45mm 1.2 that has just been released...that is a future option as well for the Canon R?
I don't know - I don't want to be gear dependent, but more in terms of which is the "easiest" solution without any quality drawbacks...or should I say, less.
