I know I am opening up a whole can of worms here, but any thoughts / comments on the up-comming SE P1 ? (aka the previously rumoured P700)

Initial impressions I have :
- Lack of hdspa is annoying for a high end business phone (though understandable as we are ahead of the curve when it comes to the implementation of that tech here)
- Xenon flash would have been a nice touch
- Pity about it supposedly using the same processor as the M600 (which I found a little laggy/slow at times)

For reference sake:

p.s. lets see how long we can go without someone drawing comparisons between the P1 and the other phone that is 3 letters prior and 94 digits higher ;)

JK8 where are you? Your SE "expert" help is need here, opened especially for U. SORRY can't advise, Nokia "expert" & fan. Ask JK8.Looks like a cool phone.

Its the "P700" low end smart phone, Im not sure why they named it the P1, I think it shoulda been named the P700 or a M650.
Its good but its still low to medium, they did not release any high end phones yesterday!:(

Thought I saw it mentioned it was their new flagship - :) Oh well I'll see what comes along next from SE (seeing I am back to using my good old P800 at the moment I can wait a while yet - my last SE phone commited suicide by jumping off a bed)

Hi guys,

OK, so JK8, here is your change to MAYBE convert a religious Nokia supporter to the dark side :D.

P1i, P990i, or M600i?

What do I want in a phone? Call, SMS, (duh!!!) sync with my PC, email, contacts & appointments. High speed connectivity would be great, bluetooth (for sync purposes).

My first and obvious choice would be the N95, but that carries a R1k premium pay in should I take it. P990i & M600i is free, obviously I have no idea what the P1i would be.

Regards.

I suggest the P990i its a bussiness phone not a media, gadget phone like the N95, and if qwerty keyboard or camera is not important, try the W950!
The P1 is nice, good looking phone, the top of SE range in terms of specs, but nothing new, it also has all the gadgets minus HSDPA. I would guess you on a T500 package so it would be free for you when it comes out... in around 6months.

Is it just me or does this just look like an M600 with wifi and camera?

Hi guys,

Thanx for the feedback. I am currently on a MyCall 100, but I am possibly going to move to a ProCall 120 as my average spend is in the region of R300 pm.

The W950i looks cool, but it costs too much as the pay in.

Piesang, where's the Nokia support!!!!!??!?!?!?!?!??!?!

Cheers,
Tyrone

Only thing I will add here is that I'm just glad that Nokia made a fuss about a phone and it was worth it.

SE made a fuss about the new P1i and it's definately a dissappointment.

Nokia N95 still FTW.:D ;)

Hi guys,

Piesang, thanx. I must admit that there are many things to consider. (Even thinking about the N70 or N80)

The opinions are much appreciated!

Cheers,
Tyrone

 Still don't know what to go for..........................

Some more thoughts on the P1

BTW, I loved the P800, P900 and P910 - the all rocked. The missus now has a P990 - can't stand it!! Very sluggish & UIQ3 is a step backwards.....

The N70 is also a nice Nokia, but I'll go for the N80 if you don't want to take out the cash for a N95.;)

P990 with steriod.

Have you tried the latest firmware update? I also wrote off the P990i but users on esato.com claim that the new firmware has drastically improved the phones performance.

About the new P1i, three months from now the excitement would've been tempered although the initial beta testers gave it raving reviews. Just hope SE learn from the mistakes they made with the P990 (which were partially caused by the implementation of UIQ3) and release a relatively bug-free phone.
