I just recently purchased a new x10i, so far, I'm finding it exceptionally difficult to familiarize myself with it.
If only I could get my contacts in its phonebook, I wouldn't have to be constantly fighting the urge to throw it on the ground, repeatedly jump on it, douse it's remains in gasoline, light it, and laugh maniacally as the flame consumes whatever evil was put inside it, that drove me to do that in the first place.

Sorry... Just had to throw that out there... This phone really isn't healthy for me...

Anyway...

Does anyone know how to make any of this Moxier stuff work?
I'm trying to make it sync with my gmail account (this is apparently the only way to transfer any significant amount of useful information to the phone, eg. very large phone-books - like mine, lots of appointments in my calendar, etc.)
So far, out of desperation, I managed to transfer almost 100 (out of maybe 750) contacts from my old Nokia, through Bluetooth, but that is hell on earth, it takes forever, uses up too much battery, and I think I'm starting to hear voices.
It keeps asking me to "Please provide detailed server information" (mail.google.com isn't enough) and what is supposed to go into "Domain" and what is the "User ID"? Is it the part before the "@gmail.com"? If it is, whoever designed the software, is an idiot.

If anyone has any idea how to make this work, I would really appreciate some instructions, since I haven't found how to make this poor excuse of software (yes, you Moxier) work.
Alternately, if anyone knows any other efficient way in which I can load the necessary information into my phone, I'd appreciate it even more.

I must confess that I was quite disappointed with the x10i, Sony Ericsson used to be my favorite cellphone manufacturers since they made some of the best cellphones of our generation, including the original Walkmans (w800 and w810) and the original Cybershots.
It is depressing to think that one of the great cellphone pioneers of our time seems to have lost sight of the bigger picture, their last few phones (xperias), have been so user-unfriendly, inefficient and just not practical...:(

PS: Just for comparison's sake, on my old n97, all I had to do to set up my email on my phone, was type in my user name and password, it did the rest for me in a few minutes...

LOL....relax 17xande, everything is not doom and gloom.

You are correct with the server settings for Google, it is pop.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com, but I suspect you need to specify the ports on which the gmail servers send & receive mail.

Check that you have filled this in correctly :

- On the "Incoming server (POP3)" field, enter 995 and mark the box "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)";
- On the "Outgoing server (SMTP)" field, enter 465 and mark the box "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)".

*The X10 is a great phone, my sis has one and I'm still trying to find a way to swop it with her for my iPhone 3G. :)

Yeah, took me a while to transfer my contacts too - but ALL Androids are the same I believe.......
There are many posts about this if you Google a bit.
I have only transferred mine from old SE phone to SE Sync and Gmail, then from SE Sync/Gmail to phone again. Use the SE Sync or Gmail method - it works once you figure it out. You can also transfer .vcf files to sdcard some how but I didn't try that method.
Good luck.

PS: what are you finding disappointing about the phone besides the contacts issue?

Just a word of warning in terms of something I'm now finding out about the X10i that Vodacom are distributing...

The firmware that its running (which SEEMS to be Vodafones) is missing a few of the really useful features like Moxier and Sony Ericsson Sync and Facebook contact linking (apparently)

I would love to know why Vodafone/Vodacom fsck phones up like this.. for what reason.

Well, I'm using an iPhone....so not much, to be honest! :)

I wish I could also drag and drop my music from my pc to my phone, but on my iPhone that is a mission.

The 8MP camera does take some good pics.

Ag no!!! Vodafone tried that same trick when I got my SE P800, but after a while they realised it's their crappy software that made the phone crash all the time.

So I went to the Vodafone centre in Oxford Street and got it flashed with "plain vanilla" SE OS. After that, it was twice as fast and didn't crash. :)

One would think Vodafone would learn from mistakes from the past.

Nope they never do..

I'm debranding the phone at present... or at least attempting to do so...

Good luck TB! I was a bit nervous about jailbreaking my iPhone, but in the end it was one click...waited 10 seconds....done. :)

Use the PC suite back up to Outlook and restore. Quick quick.

No such thing with these Android phones I'm afraid - only PC Companion and that only lets you use the SE Sync website to do backups and restores.

I have a Vodacom X10i from Nashua Mobile that has everything on it that it should have (incl. Moxier). Can those of you that have things missing please provide more info about your software versions and phone suppliers?

I was running firmware R1FA014 and got the phone directly from Vodacom

It was missing Moxier, and the ability to use the SE Sync website.... two INCREDIBLY important features on the phone if you ask me.

Those are the only two things I found in the 3 days I've had the phone... could have been more crippled but I wouldn't have found out.

I'm now running the Nordic firmware R1FA016, until I can get my hands on R1FB001 (about 2 hours or so :) )

^^^ so how are you finding R1FA016 - was it worth it and did it restore the missing bits?

Here's how to sync your contacts from your nokia n97.
Download mail for exchange from the ovi store or wherever its kept;
creat a new profile:
Settings:
Connection:
exchange server: m.google.com
Secure: yes
Access point : (your default)
Sync while roaming: yes
Use default port: yes

credentials:
Username: your gmail address
Password: your gmail password
Domain: none

Sync Schedule:
set to manual for first two options
In case of conflict: phone wins

I DIDN'T SYNC CALENDER, EMAIL OR TASKS, JUST CONTACTS.
I F YOU PLAN OF SYNCING THOSE, I SUGGEST DO EACH ONE SEPARATELY BY TURNING THE OTHERS OFF.

Used this to sync all my contacts to my gmail acc, then used my android phone (desire) to pull them back.

5 mins tops.

enjoy.

From my point of view.. yes it was worth de-branding, simply because I've now got the missing bits and can do the things the phone advertises...
