Silly question, but is the source switched on - i.e the DSTV decoder - is the TV on the right input channel?
According to the user manual, the following happens:
Troubleshooting
If you find any problem while viewing your TV, you can either check the Troubleshooting guide below or
use the "Factory Settings" function (page 28). If the problem persists, contact your Sony dealer.
Check whether the standby indicator is flashing in red.
When it's flashing, the self-diagnosis function is activated.
- 1. Count how many standby indicator flashes between each two second break.
For example: the indicator flashes three times, then there is a two second break, followed by another three flashes, etc.
- 2. Press the standby button on the top edge of the TV to turn it off, disconnect the AC power cord, and inform your dealer or Sony service centre of how the indicator flashes (number of flashes).
It sounds like it could be one of the boards, possibly the inverter board. The factory settings menu can only be accessed via the menu when the TV is on - are you able to see this menu when the standby light is green?
Try turning off the unit, unplug it, then press the power/standby button on the unit for 10 seconds - leave it unplugged for 30 minutes or so, then try and power on again.
You can also try the following:
Be aware that in doing this you will lose any saved settings on the TV, but it may not works for your model. To perform a "hard" factory reset, turn the TV on, hold the
up button on the remote control down and, while holding the up button down on the remote control, press the power button on the TV. When you release both buttons, the tv should power down, and then power up and ask you what language you want.
