Sony on the comeback trail: CEO

I like Sony and do support them, I have two Sony notebooks and a few phones. My new Sony Vaio Duo 11 i7 tablet/notebook is great !

But they still have a long way to go, their inflexible management is what caused all of their problems.

Apple got things done because SJ was a visionary, but also because he was a dictator.

Sony managed to create great things within divisions, but without a really strong CEO they could never really get the divisions to work together.

I wonder if the Business schools use these companies for case studies, a comparison between Apple and Sony management styles would a great case study.

well good luck to them. Their products are great, so I hope they can pull their **** together

I think inflexible management isn't the problem so much as its bizarre product decisions and pricing structures. They have a long history of creating a product that is really impressive in nearly every way and then crippling it with one single design or pricing move.

i think they should breakdown the company into smaller independent divisions to make it nimble and quick to respond and delegate non critical components work to outside firms. That will see them come back to life.

Well said. I love all my Sony gear though. :)

I had the original Sony Walkman before it was even released in SA (old man brought it back with him from Japan). That thing took a hammering and never gave up.

Sony makes brilliant products, but they need to find a way to cut their production costs because Samsung and all the others are coming out with products with better pricing, and more features.

One thing that made Sony unpopular is their resistance to multi-format media, and refusal to play said media. While they were sticking to their DRM formats, others were allowing unrestricted playback. It doesn't help that Sony is also in the movie and audio business, either, because they thought they were acting in their own best interests, they weren't.

+1

For example: PS3, supposed to be this all in one media player/games console, but cant play all media formats and PS2 support got dropped.
