Sony Playstation 4 Pro - Repairer

Hi all,

I have a PS4 Pro, barely 1 year old that I think took a lightning hit via the ADSL router earlier this week. It is working 100% OK except that the LAN plug on the back of the PS4 Pro appears to be dead. Seems the LAN port on the router that it was plugged into is also dead, but the other 3 LAN ports on the router seem to work OK. The PS4 works fine on WIFI but if plugged into the router via LAN, says it is not connected to the internet. The LAN port on the router is definitely working as I can get other devices such as the smart TV and laptop on line using that same port on the router.

My question: where can I take it to get checked and repaired? Edenvale/Bedfordview/Greenstone/Sandton general area is ideal but can travel a bit further if I know I am in safe, honest and reliable hands. Seems there is no "Sony Authorised Service Centre" for PS in SA?! Someone mentioned "Partserve" which is close by where I stay, but reading on the web, seems this is an absolutely horrific company to deal with as far as service goes. One nightmare story after the next on forums and Hello Peter. Sony's website is utterly useless with regards information on repairers. Pretty disappointed in Sony on that score.

Advice greatly appreciated. Anyone that has had this work done know what I might be in for cost wise, and approx repair down time?

Thanks in advance!

If it's still under warranty, then Partserve are the official warranty agents for Sony in the country. If it doesn't fall under warranty, then they can quote you for parts and labour.

I'll check if the guy I used to repair my PS3 works on PS4.

Warranty does not cover lightning damage and it would be fraudulent to claim it broke by itself.

Insurance is an option though to pay for a repair at Partserver or do the refurbished unit swop out.

I am not keen to try with my insurance - and they might also not cover lightning damage, not sure. Losing my Outsurance "out-bonus" a few months before it is due to be paid also makes this a less attractive option.

Just concerned about the huge negativity on the web around Partserve. Has anyone had a good experience using them? What about "Blind Ant" in Sandton - they claim to fix these things. Anyone used them?

I would absolutely not accept a refurb unit. They would have to repair my unit and return my unit. My PS4 Pro is just over a year old, it is in brand new condition and has probably been in use for no more than 50 hours max and about 100 hours standby time while downloading ridiculously large update files. [Never can figure out why a game developer issues an update file that is 4GB. Seriously, can't they just update the affected files, or is the coding that bad that the bugs are in EVERY SINGLE file of the game? But I digress....) A refurb unit is probably going to have been well used. Worst case scenario, I would rather live with it being WIFI only but really want to fix it considering I still deem it (in my opinion) to be brand new.

Update - I called PartServe - they are the appointed Sony agents. They do not repair PlayStation units. They only exchange them for refurbished units. (How they get refurbished units without doing repairs, not quite sure......) A refurb unit will cost me R 3,400. I wonder if Xbox, Nintendo etc all have equally bad after sales service as Sony? I could rant on about this state of affairs but when you live in S.A. its par for the course.

Anyway guys and girls, my question still stands - anyone that can recommend a reliable, trustworthy place I can take it in for what is probably a quick and easy fix? Else I will live with it as a WIFI only device from now on.
