Sony, Sharp or Toshiba LCD?

if you've got a console or a blu-ray player with USB function, just use that...i have never used my TV's usb ports to play media through so i can't comment on that. its a nice to have especially when upgrading the firmware. i don't think i will ever by any other brand than Sony when it comes to TV's :D

Just like my mother in law - she only drinks Joko tea. :D

More seriously, I will go where technology leads, so yes Sony is nice, but currently I think that my only option is to stick with my LG Cinema 3D TV - I really love it - I watch everything in 3D lately - even all the series - totally addicted. Unfortunately I cannot do that with a Sony currently, at least not affordably.

LOL! :D

Sad. Your position is even more unique, in that you come to TV related threads to spew one liners about how I am a troll.

......... more BS..........

Deservedly so! Tit for Tat much?

Not feeling guilty yet? for misleading so many members, convincing them to buy cheapskate based on your "experience" so they would never know or experience the real difference in quality?

Wow, Ive seen a Plasma next to an LED, the Plasma is about 5 times the weight of the LED. I wonder how much more is paid in freight charges for such heavy equipment than the equivalent size of LED TV.

I receive too many thanks for helping, PMs etc. to ever fit your bizarre accusation of feeling "guilty".

You attack me when I comment on other techs, because I don't "own" them. Now I am "misleading" members because I am advising based on my actual "owning" the techs (and the info from experts/magazines/online that correlates) and now I am wrong, and "misleading" members. LOL. :D Tell us which TV you own once again, so as to demonstrate your knowledge.

You come here attacking me because you think I troll threads, and now you are doing the exact same thing?

What's it to you, anyway? What's the obsession with trolling me? ;)

How about relating some of that "expert" experience in this fitting thread

Hi everyone

It's time to upgrade the TV in the lounge. I've compiled a shortlist of three models that we're considering - Sony KDL-40EX520, Sharp LC-40LE631 and Toshiba 42SL863. As you can see they are all as close to 40" as possible with LED backlighting. The main features are almost identical and 3D is a nice-to-have, not a necessity.

Which brand could be considered overall best? Do not suggest LG or Samsung, you'll be RBPd :p
Dude I have the KDL-40EX400 and it is perfect fine for SD, so I'm sure that the 40EX520 will be great too. Don't let anyone harp on otherwise, unless you're the type who obsesses about going close up to the screen to try and identify flaws as to where CRT/Plasma is better. At 2.5m it looks perfectly fine and you wouldn't give a crap because most of the stuff mentioned is not noticeable at that distance. What you do want is for it to do HD well, and that it does. Now I'm sure at this point someone will start ragging on about viewing distances for HD and how 720p isn't much different to 1080p.

As mentioned before, as long as you ensure that your input source for SD is HDMI or component, then you have nothing to worry about. And even if your input source is composite, the slight drop in quality is not noticeable enough for you to care about.

It's a pity that you're in CPT otherwise you would have been more than welcome to pop in and take a look for yourself.
I don't care. It's off topic/derailing/trolling.
As was your post when you went off topic despite the OP being clear on his 3 choices.

Matter of opinion. People are obviously used to SD looking crap on wide screen HD TVs especially LCD which suffers the most.

As long as SD source is via HDMI then it will be a lot better.

Nothing near the quality of CRT though.

All pertinent in light of 60/40 reliance on SD, especially since upgrading from CRT.

An update, just over 14 years later - we went for a Toshiba 40WL753. Still in daily use. Very happy with the choice.

Strange that you'd necro a 14 year old thread just to say nothing's wrong with it yet.

So... what's wrong with it?

Interesting. EU assembled with Japanese, Korean or Taiwanese components. That's why it lasted this long.

Why This Matters

  • Pre‑licensing era: Unlike later Toshiba TVs made under license by Compal or Hisense, the 40WL753 was designed, engineered, and assembled by Toshiba itself.
  • European build quality: Polish‑assembled Toshiba TVs from this period are often regarded as solidly built, with good panel quality and conservative engineering.
Panels were made either by AU Optronics or Samsung or even LG.
Main boards and ICs were made in Japan.
