Sony to launch 102MP full-frame camera sensor – Report

Someone could take a picture of the moon and then zoom into the lunar landers ;)

great. not much glass out there that will resolve this . its not always the quantity of pixels, the the quality that matters

The current G Master lenses are made to resolve high MP, so shouldn't be an issue.

Phase One is already selling a 100 MP drone camera using a medium format Sony sensor. Fujifilm have announced an upcoming 100 MP camera (also medium format). It looks like this resolution may be in demand.

How good will night shots be?
After like 10MP there are diminishing returns for most use cases, even 8MP can be overkill.

Aperture, ISO, frame time, software processing etc. Plays such a huge role after. Just look at the pixel cameras, the lens itself is okay, it's the software that makes it amazing.

That's not saying 100MP+ has no use case or isn't that good, just that it won't be that useful for most.

So you can see that pimple in clear detail? I just don't see the point of anything over 24MP. Another 1MP gives you 2% more pixels but you need to add 72MP to get 100% more. At 96MP another 1MP only gives you 0.5% more pixels. At some point you reach the truth of diminishing returns.
