Sony TRV460E Camcorder + Dirty Head

Hello

First off sorry if I am posting in the wrong section, but of all the ones available this seemed the most applicable

I bought a Sony TRV460E from Game a couple of years back and have just recently started receiving messages about "Dirty Head - Please Clean"

How do I go about doing this? None of the Digital Shops that I have tried stock the Sony Head Cleaning Cassette I need anymore (The TRV460E being and old model using Hi8 tapes)

I did manage to find a Head Cleaning tape at Kodak but even after using this it didn't help and every time now I try to re-use the head cleaning tape the actual tape itself just gets stuck/tangled. So I am not sure if this is the right head cleaning tape and where I can get another make

The camcorder does appear to record, or maybe I am just being hopeful, but playback only shows a blue screen

I am contemplating opening up the device and using meths and and ear buds to clean. Your thoughts on this?

Any help would be appreciated

Go to a service centre and ask them to clean the heads and the tape transport.

Don't open it yourself. The tolerances in the tape loading mechanism are very small... if you bend any of the arms, or strip a nylon cog, you'll be in for a very expensive repair.

By Service Center you are referring to either Sony South Africa or MasterCare right?

Will do that I think seeing as the Head Cleaner didnt help

For DVD transfer... where are you? My suggestion would be to do it yourself, but any electronics store should be able to direct you.

Would love to do it myself but cant, or rather don't know how at the moment

With my current camcorder not being able to do Playback there is no way for me to get the data off of the Hi8 tape onto my computer to burn to DVD (which is what I have done in the past) other than find somebody with a camcorder that takes Hi8 tapes I guess
