Sony TV, consumer electronics division closing: report

OK, I had to read the piece three times to realise Sony is not stopping the manufacturing of televisions. Their SA business just won't be selling them here any more!

Employees authorised to comment apparently knock off at 15:45 on Wednesdays.

No wonder they were struggling! Drop a bomb shell like this, but the spinners are playing golf!

Sony TV's were overpriced and under featured and of a non-stelalr quality but their camera's and HT stuff was good value for money. Guess Sony isn't the same brand anymore to consumers.

More likely consumers choose brands that are cheap, but "good enough".

*cough*samsung*cough*

Great, no more Japanese quality. Thanks Korea, and its muppets. The consumer has never been so limited for choice.

This will be sad... I don't like Samsung's bright and unnatural colour screens...

Not a biggie, i was buying all my Sony stuff from oversees in any case. Or it is not available or ridiculously overpriced here, guess i will just have to carry on doing it.

I guess you cared less about warranty

When last have you heard about a television breaking. People only buy televisions because they want newer tech, not because the old ones broke. Unfortunately for the manufacturers, the tech curve flattened again and few are buying.

The story behind the story here is that Sony SA was a division of Sony Dubai. Dubai sent a bunch of managers to SA who completely messed up the SA business to the point that it now has to close. Now Sony Dubai will supply SA with Sony products directly, which is exactly what they wanted...

I feel very sorry for the staff who worked there because they were screwed over by Sony management around every corner. Sony is on their way down and I wonder if they will still exist in 5 or 10 years because management is completely self-destructing the company.
