Greetings all,

My Xperia Go still has Android ICS on it, but I believe that Jelly Bean (4.1.2?) has been rolled out by Sony a couple of months ago. Still, it doesn't seem to be available through the normal update channels here in SA (MTN).

Anyone out there have any experience with this issue? Where and how do you get JB 4.1.2, and how do you get it onto your handset? More importantly, is it worth the hassle?

Any input will be appreciated.

My son has one on Vodacom and it updated to JB this weekend when he plugged it in to the desktop software. Looks good so far with some nifty new features.

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe MTN is running behind with the roll-out. Have you noticed any improvement on battery consumption?

Are you using PC Companion to update your phone?? I have Xperia Z and also couldnt update with PC Companion as it always said my phone is up to date when I know there is a new update released. Anyway, I downloaded Sony Ericsson Update Service and this works alot better

Yes, I have the same result as you, when using PC Companion. Also tried using the phone's direct update app, but get the same result as well. Thanks for the tip about Sony Ericsson Update Service - I'll see if I can find that and try it.

Update : I found and downloaded the Sony Ericsson Update Service. Ran it but it also tells me my phone is up to date, so I didn't proceed past that step. The quest continues ....

I have the Xperia V and it would not update with PC Companion either. It had a very annoying and regular wi-fi freezing the phone issue that was fixed with an update available elsewhere. I wasn't prepared to wait for Vodacom. I used the Update Service, downloaded and manually installed the latest official one. Worked a charm, like the phone now does.

I will ask about the battery but they are using the phone al the time for music, messaging etc that I don't know if they will notice any battery improvement :)
It is half the time plugged into the PC.

Cirdan, thanks for the input.

hsmnel, yup, that's youngsters!!

For the benefit of anyone else viewing this thread with similar problems, I eventually downloaded the JB update here (SUS didn't work for me - it told me the phone was already up to date)

I followed the instructions and flashed the handset using the flashtool mentioned on the page, and so far, can report success, and the battery does seem to be doing better as well.

what program did you use to download the firmware file?

Sorry the slow reply mmmig.

I didn't use any specific download management software - just followed the instructions provided on the link, and everything seemed to work ok. The link does mention a couple of download tools which you can use in case your download doesn't work as expected, but I did not find it necessary to use them - the Win7 downloader seemed to do the job ok.

I should add, that the phone has since updated again, but this time it updated via the Sony PC Companion software, which worked ok.

Hi,
I have an Xperia GO with ICS 4.0.4 (6.1.1B.1.10) on MTN.
Both the system check and the Sony update service says the software is up to date.
However I know Jelly Bean is available - this thread says Vodacom has released.
Even Sony says:
Android version: Google Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean)
Latest available software: 6.2.A.1.100
Release started: 2013-06-12

Has anybody seen an MTN update OTA?

anybody else having a problem with the caller crashing when answering a call? I uninstalled viber and that did the trick of fixing it but hope sony fixes this bug

Got the Xperia Go over the weekend for my son and he's on MTN. It updated to JB 4.1.2 after plugging it in to PC companion, but the phone was purchased from a Vodacom outlet, so I don't know if that would make a difference. The JB update seems well worth it and the phone itself is inexpensive and sturdy should be ideal for a teenager!

Yes with Jellybean 6.2.A.0.400 as well as the later version 6.2.A.1.100 Viber, Skype and Whapsapp all apparently give this caller issue and make this phone totally unusable.
