Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Man, I'm loving Sony atm. Great phones and great tablets. This is the next phone that I want!

As far as I know it's only available in certain parts of Asia right now e.g. Japan, India, Hong Kong. Heard it will only make it to other regions in September.
 
Official release only in September. SA later. It's the first phablet to use the Snapdragon 800 chipset, and they say the difference is huge. The only negative is that it doesn't have a flash. GSMArena has more info.
 
According to the Sony Mobile ZA Facebook page, they said it will be available from end of September at vodacom.....dont know about MTN??

Looks like an awesome device!! A bit too big for me but nonetheless its still a great device
 
I saw this phone available on mtn, they offering a free case and headset. Can anyone confirm what model headset it is? I'm hoping its that new sbh52.
 
By the look of this thread, it seems the Ultra is not a popular choice? Apart from the lack of a flash I am liking the look of this monster.
 
Using it for a few weeks, totally amazing device... But you must purchase the sbh52 Sony bluetooth headset with it otherwise you'll look like a fool when making calls

That's what they said when the Galaxy Note came out and now it looks normal!
 
The only thing bigger than this would be a tablet so I reckon this is the borderline between phones and tabs, aka phablet. I tried a couple of calls without using the sbh52. Luckily nobody was looking... I've vowed since not to do it again. Ever.
 
Just a heads up, MTN does not offer the sbh52 bluetooth headset, I had to order it from clove.Co.UK
 
I don't see many people using this phone, either way, does anyone know if the kitkat update is available on MTN as yet?

Got my Z ultra last week (vodacom). Loving the device and the size!!!

Although I dont make that many calls....I would still like to maybe get that bluetooth headset. Can i ask how much the shipping cost was and how long for delivery??

Altogether it was around R1500 with shipping and duties. Took five days I think. Choose shipping via dhl

One of many reasons I disliked the Z Ultra was that it was a flagship with no Camera Flash, I had a Xperia X10 in 2010 which had a Camera Light NOT a Flash, one had to go into the settings and Turn On the Light, and often I forgot if I wanted to quickly get a pic and so many pics came out dark and useless, with Z Ultra there was nothing, poor move by Sony.

I believe the Z1 costs quite a bit more, the Z Ultra at under R4000 is a steal, especially if you just want a top spec phablet and don't plan on taking many night/low light pics.
