The Sony Xperia Z is a touchscreen enabled, HD Android flagship smartphone designed, developed, and marketed by Sony Mobile. The phone was announced by Sony at CES 2013 and set for a global release in the first quarter of 2013. The Xperia Z will be released with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. It is the first high-end smartphone designed to be dust and water resistant. The official UK release date is 28 February 2013.
There is also a cheaper variant called the Sony Xperia ZL that uses the same hardware, but the case is slightly more compact and not water resistant and it has a camera button. The Sony Xperia Tablet Z, which is water resistant like the Xperia Z, was also announced around the same time.
