Hey Guys,
I got a Sony Xperia Z2 last week for my wife. As I type this phone is 9 days old. Wife chose the phone and we got it in purple.
Since Monday we have been on holiday. On Tuesday we filmed a video in the splash pool of my son enjoying the water. Pool was roughly 500mm deep and is fresh water. Well below the IP58 limit. Phone functioned fine after and yesterday. Yesterday we were on the beach where a few pics were taken and also no problems. (Was not used in water at the beach) Last night my wife wanted to take a picture of the sunset and when looking at the photo she was surprised it was so blurry and even more surprised when she noticed condensation on the camera lens.
Since then the screen has also been playing up. The drop down menu to access quick settings (swipe down from top of screen) is not responding as well as the auto rotation of the screen.
One thing I noticed is that if you look down from the top of the phone through the headphone jack you can see the screen light. This is a bit of a surprise since it is not necessary to block this before submerging in water. Possibly entered through the headphone jack?
Unfortunately a phone call to Vodacom just confirmed what I was afraid of. Phone is out of 7 day exchange. Either way it would need to be booked in to a repair centre.
Purpose of this thread?
Well since experiencing this I have seen a lot of similar cases online. I will be updating this thread with regards to the repairs/replacement etc. I am very keen to see Vodacom's response.
If anyone has experienced a similar issue please post here with all information.
What happened?
Was it repaired?
Was it replaced?
Were you charged to repair it?
Did you claim from insurance?
And if any of you have been using your Z2 in water often let us know.
Obviously I have insurance on the phone but IMO this is Vodacom's baby and or Sony. Insurance is my last option.
Here is link to clip I recorded. Uploaded from my S3. (We on holiday) Looks like it cut a few seconds of video at end.
