I have had my Z3 compact for 2 months now and last night the back panel cracked for no reason.
This phone has never been dropped, I am always very careful with my phones.

I googled it and it seems to be a common problem. The phone would be perfect if it was not for this issue.

I am now waiting for Vodacom to advise me if they will have it repaired or replaced.

Had exactly the same thing happen to me. Went to MTN and they sent it through to the Sony repair centre who quoted R3000 for the repair.

PG Glass?

Maybe you sat on it or tight pant pocket that bent it slightly. Happened to colleagues tablet the other day.

No, not at all. These phones apparently have issues with the panels cracking

That is ridiculous, what did you do?

Well if it makes you feel better my front panel cracked for a reason.

Apparently dropping a Z3 face first without a cover onto the pavement makes the screen crack.

Told them I wouldn't accept. They sent the phone back to me. They said the damage was due to pressure on the phone. That's impossible as the phone was on the table when it just cracked. Will post a pic. Still waiting for them to get back to me again.

Stupid vodacom. I sent in my Z3 for an issue where my headphone jack wasn't working at all. Was told that it would take between 1-2 weeks. After a week, they tell me another 2 weeks  All the while I sit here with a piece of schit Samsung neo or whatever this thing is

This problem has been widely documented for both the Z3 and Z3 compact, one of the main reasons for me not taking one.

Yep such an awesome device and poor after sales service, Sony won't even acknowledge the design fault in most cases and often say the phone has been dropped to get out of fixing the panel.

I’m having the same issue. First the main camera stopped working 3 weeks after I received my Z3 compact. Send it in to Vodacom Care. 2 weeks later I received a refurbished phone back. Only to have the screen crack from bottom to top while sitting on the counter for no reason at all. I’m busy logging a call at Office of the Consumer Protector (0800 007 081) and The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) (086 184 3384). The more calls we log the more they will have to listen to us. The Consumer Protection Act clearly state
(2) Within six months after the delivery of any goods to a consumer, the consumer
may return the goods to the supplier, without penalty and at the supplier’s risk and
expense, if the goods fail to satisfy the requirements and standards contemplated in
section 55, and the supplier must, at the direction of the consumer, either—
(a) repair or replace the failed, unsafe or defective goods; or
(b) refund to the consumer the price paid by the consumer, for the goods.
(3) If a supplier repairs any particular goods or any component of any such goods, and
within three months after that repair, the failure, defect or unsafe feature has not been
remedied, or a further failure, defect or unsafe feature is discovered, the supplier must—
(a) replace the goods; or
(b) refund to the consumer the price paid by the consumer for the goods.

Woah, those cracks are hectic. Sorry man, that sucks :(

I've been fairly lucky with mine i guess, very hot and humid conditions and also dropped a few times, came away unscathed.

This is good information. I will make sure to use it.

Thanks, will use this if I have any issues with mine which is currently being assessed at Vodacom

I got my phone back. The rear panel was replaced under warranty. When I took the phone in I told the consultant that this is a common problem, I researched it online and it is well documented that these phones have a problem.

The repair seems decent. Looks like new.
