Will the update come to the mtn network or will mtn shaft their customers?

Be nice if the mtn rep can check.

Mtn call centrestaff say they haven't any clue.

Don't wait for the OTA update.

Use your Sony PC Companion - it should reflect that here is an update available.

Be careful of kitkat update

Don't wait for the OTA update.

Use your Sony PC Companion - it should reflect that here is an update available.

I know this post is a few months old, but I have been looking at getting this phone on an MTN contract. During my research, I managed to replicate a camera freeze bug on 3 different CellC in-store demo Z1 Compacts. Turns out that internationally, this bug is well known (along with a LOT of other problems) - all brought about by the 4.4.2 Kitkat update.

So be careful and research before updating. Apparently the 4.4.4 update fixes most issues (It is on Sony's website, but I cannot confirm if the update is rolled out OTA here in SA).

I know some people who have this phone on Vodacom, but they cannot replicate the issue, even with the same build number as the CellC phones I tested. So I'm wary of signing for a 2 year contract with a phone that gives me trouble from the start.

If there is anyone who can voice their two cents, please do. The iPhone is looking better and better at the moment :wtf:

I received the latest update to 4.4.4, 14.4.A.0.108, yesterday via the Sony PC companion application.

I never had any problems with the camera freezing, so I cannot comment on that. I did get the phone at CellC, but I probably don't use the camera anywhere near often enough to hit any bugs?
The update did resolve the annoying notification distortion issue I had.
Other than that, I didn't have any other problems with the phone with the previous update.

Did my update today,
What notification distortion did you have?

The camera freezing was really intermittent for me, I would say it happened like twice or 3 times, out of like 60 odd times of using the camera.

I will monitor to check if it still happens.

No wonder I didn't get the camera freezing, I don't use the camera anywhere near that much.

The notification happened on just about every notification sound being played; a split second into the SMS, Whatsapp or other notification, there would be a small break or distortion in the sound clip being played.

Had no problems so far with the latest update.

No problems with the latest 4.4.4 update.

No camera freezing issue although I was losing cell signal and had to reboot. Turns out that a sim swap fixed that issue.

"OK Google" command now works as well.

to be fair Sony has always had problems with their software, they'll fix an issue with an update but that update will have a whole host of other issues. for this reason I avoid Sony Phones
