Hi Guys,

I am looking at buying this camera:

http://www.photographyblog.com/reviews/sony_cybershot_dsc_hx200v_review/

I think it looks great and gets a good review, but I am just an amateur when it comes to photography. Do not want to do anything special with it, just need it for better pics of animals when going to the Kruger Park etc. I can get the camera for R4199 brand new. Is that an ok deal and is it a good camera. Like I said I know nothing and would like to hear from you guys.

Thanks

Let me just say that I am slightly biased towards DSLR and have almost no experience with bridge cameras apart from a Panasonic Lumix I owned many moons ago. So take my advice with a pinch of salt

I just went through all the sample images and the majority of the review you posted.

It looks like a decent camera for your usage but I can't help notice that the images are not extremely sharp, even at 100 - 500 ISO some of the images are "soft" and noisy.

It has a very versatile zoom range and it can come in handy but I would seriously invest in a tripod as well if you go for it.
Look especially at the shot of the window at full zoom. The image is very "soft" and all detail is lost when you view it at 100%

The tilting screen is very nice if you are going to use it for video. The screen is also nice and big.

Li-Ion battery is a good thing. Some people prefer AA batteries. I prefer the battery packs.

A bit disappointing that the camera does not allow shooting in RAW.

All in all it is a good looking camera but I would look at other options as well.

Thanks for the feedback, I unfortunately saw this too late and have already bought the camera. It seems good and looks like it will meet my requirements. Thanks so much for the response... :)

Pleasure.

Enjoy the camera and hope to see some shots with your new toy in the "Stop what you are doing right now and take a photo" thread.
