Sony has just announced a new handheld gaming device, codenamed Project Q, which will let you stream games from your PS5.

The handheld will launch later this year...
Looking at the design of this thing,,, Nope (even if I was able to buy it and a PS5). Hopefully this is an early mockup and something better will release.

At least a part of me can see the appeal, as currently my PS5 is hooked on to the main TV in the house. A big reason I also got a Switch was for its portability including using it around the house and honestly, I'd actually like being able to play a few minutes of PS5 games without having to go into the console or sit down in front of the TV.

But if I would ever buy one greatly depends on the price. This basically just makes it easier than using your phone for streaming the games.

The reason I'm not Sony CEO: release a portable console, able to run PS5 games but targeting 720p. And create a button where I can click "Downgrade PS5 game to Portable mode"

I don’t understand the use case for a product like this that only works on the local network doing things I already do.

I can simply fire up Remote Play on my Mac or iPad for a much bigger and likely better screen and audio in both cases.

Its as if they wanna show the middle finger to their partners:

I want a Vita ver 2.
I dunno what they're thinking.

I should have stopped reading Ars after

The Portal can only run games streamed from a PlayStation 5 via Remote Play and is apparently completely useless for anything else.

Sony wants to lock you down to their own proprietary connectivity solution instead of Bluetooth, so that you buy their HW. They will be allowing 3rd party HW guys to make HW tho.

Portal doesn't support standard Bluetooth connectivity, meaning players who own other wireless headphones are out of luck (wired headphones can be connected through a standard 3.5 mm jack, at least).

I get the streaming, but having only Wifi kinda sucks, should have at least added LTE/sim support.

Another bummer, agreed. Using regular Bluetooth would have allowed people to use the same earpods they travel with for music on the go. Its like they going out of their way to make sure you only use the device @ home/none mobile environment.

Thanx, but I'll continue to borrow the Mrs's Switch or use my Anbernic when we go out and about as Q has no extra to make me go "I want"
