Good day all, this will be my first post on this forum, so please excuse me if a am a bit noobish.

I am hoping to get some advice on which sound-bars are good and where you can buy them.
I am based in Cape Town and talk to some guys at audiovision. They recommended the Yamaha YHT-S401 as which retails for around R6,500. I do not really want to spend more than this.

However, the range of sound-bars available in SA seems to be rather limited. I could not really find a competitor that is in the same class as the Yamaha.

Any suggestions will be great. Just some more info, I do have a 3D blu-ray player so I don't need one of those sound-bars with a built-in player. Also, I'm not to fused with that whole simulated 3D sound, good 2.1 sound for movies and music should be fine. A 5.1 system is not an option at this stage as my living room is fairly small.

Thanks in advance.

I got a JNC soundbar from House & Home a few years back for R1100. Its only got the two RCA inputs at the back and an iPod dock in the front but the sound quality is pretty good.

If you're looking for something more fancy then you're going to have to open up the wallet:D

I have this unit, got it from Govan Mani, can't remember what I paid for it but it was around 2 grand. Currently have the blu ray and appletv in the optical inputs and dstv running through the portable in via a RCA to aux adaptor and the sound is pretty good.

Sony HT-CT550 or Samsung HT-E8200 are the only two premium units i can find in SA. Not the best reviews (on CNET).

I can get the Yamaha YHT-401 for R6k at audiovision after some negotiation. Most reviews seems favourable. I'll go with that me thinks.

My budget is 5.

I think I'll get the Sony. CNET's problem was that it was overpriced. In SA there's not much choice so I don't think that point is moot.

The Samsung has "smart" features, I think. So it might be worth the extra grand.

I was hoping someone could point to a midrange for about 3k ideally. But South Africa only seen to keep the really cheap ones and the premium models.

Go have a look at Smart Lifestyle outside Canal Walk and ignore those Audio Vision twats.
