Sound card Com card "conflict"

I have a customer that needed an extra COM port, they have the standard one and then added a PCI card with two COM Ports, and I added a Netmos with two COM’s and a Parallel. If the new installed Netmos card is in the sound does not work, it does not show a conflict there is just no sound.
He needs all the COM ports and the sound as the PC gets used for the monitoring system in an armed response company.
Any ideas?

COM1,COM3 = IRQ4
COM2,COM4 = IRQ3
Sound card = IRQ5 or IRQ7

In your BIOS setup program, reserve IRQ's 3 and 4. The sound card, being plug and play, should use another free IRQ.

Disable the onboard COM port(s) as you already have 4 COM ports, and won't need a 5th one. If you do, then I would suggest that you take a look at the Advantech series of serial cards - you can have up to 8 serial ports on one card.

Also, disable the onboard printer port (if there is one).


Good luck, interrupt conflicts is not fun. been there, done that.

Agree try force them in the BIOS.

How old is that PC? tbo I've not seen IRQ conflicts since ISA days and jumper settings, thought they were a thing of the past with the 16 IRQ limit gone.

Another thought, if the Netmos card bumped the sounds IRQ up it possibly confused the sound drivers.

If you still don't come right there are USB to 1/2/4x Serial Cable Converters as an alternative option.

thanks for all the input, operating system is XP, PC is not that old its a Socket 775.
I disabled the onboard LPT1 but have not tried LPT2 and the extra COM port so will give that a try. I am also going to see if I can get another brand card.
